Hello, I’m wondering how important it is to replace the crush washers on Fox forks when taking off the lowers for a service? Is it possible/advisable to reuse the ones that are already on there or will I risk ending up with an rideable fork if I don’t have a new set to hand when I start the work?

I’m asking as I was just about to strip my forks down to check out the negative spring chamber (I have a sneaking suspicion it’s full of grease) but forgot that I don’t have any of these to hand just now.

I've done it in the past with no problems, just be careful taking them off and on again. It's not ideal but if it's a fork that is playing up then worth the risk.

Yep, reused them on occasion. Don't know if it makes a difference, but I always flipped them over when reusing.

Always change them as pain in the arse if slightly deformed.

I’ve just left them for now, turns out I had plenty to do else where I’m the bike. I guess I’d rather be certain of having a working bike for tomorrow morning than take the risk possibly get a small improvement from cleaning out the negative spring grease.

I’ll probably get some in before I start doing the work on this, just in case I need them.

I don't know what the maximum number of times you can reuse them is, I've never serviced the same fork more than 10 or so times and that's never been enough reuses to cause a problem.

but it's totally possible that the next time I do it, it'll piss oil everywhere.

Theoretically never because they are designed to permanently deform when installed to form a seal. Like you however, I've reused them plenty without a problem.
