Building an old galaxy up and now it’s time to get some panniers. I’d like something in keeping. Karrimor probably.

So, anyone got a set that they fancy selling

No probs, I've got some green cordura ones from the early nineties, elastic on the lids and bottom hooks slightly baggy but still work fine.
Yours for £120 so I can get myself a pair of these which have nice modern hooks that don't jump off half way down a hill in Norway and will look better on my old Caygill:

Just dug out a pair of Karrimor iberian 50 panniers. I’m guessing from the mid 90’s. I’d be willing to part with them if they are of interest?

@sefton, I’m sorry, I’m going to have to retract my offer. Just had a look at them and although now unfashionable, the quality is much better than what I could get without spending big. They will do perfectly for carrying my optical/camera gear around the Norfolk countryside when I retire. As I’ve kept them hanging up in my bike shed for probably over 30 years I really should keep them.

I just fitted my old ortlieb rollers to my touring bike. Pure nostalgia, still smell of the 90s.

Super c s are 120 new, there was a pair on FB mktplace but seller wanted 90.

Love old touring bikes, still use mine, most comfortable bike I ve ever had.

Altura do a vintage look pannier, but with modern retainer clips. Old panniers are great until the elastic retainer clip detaches itself and catches in the spokes 😳

@Sefton. That'll be from when they were still made in Acrington ! Fine Lancastrian workwomanship. Gone are the days. I still have a Hot Earth 40 rucksac in active service from those days too.
2 mates made a test rig for Karrimor to thrash prototypee panniers to see where they would fail, so they could then improve those parts before going into production.

(Won't touch Karrimor since that scumbag Cashley took the brand name and slaps it on cheap shiiite from China whilst trading off the former
Co's reputation).

I've one (maybe two) of the old karrimor purple 💜 panniers (early 90's)  in my parents attic. No quick way of getting access to them though....

We did have four at one point - my brother and I did the SDW one summer and never used them again.

I have a set of green Kalaharis, front and rear. Fronts are basically unused and rears very seviceable, not tatty. Got a Super Galaxy of about 1986 vintage to match too if needed.

I’ll dig them out tomorrow for pics.

I bought a pair of Karrimor panniers, back in 1994.
All they did was catch in the spokes.

I’d stick with something modern (rigid and with readily available spares).

I did make it to tangier with the karrimors, but I had to attach a pair of oven trays to the rear rack, as a way of keeping the panniers out of the rear wheel, (and to open up the possibility of some al-fresco cooking too😄😄😄)

Ebay would be your best bet, I always see Karrimor panniers on there.

I've a pair of older AGU sport quorum 550's.

Any good to you @sefton ?

You can have them for nowt as they are better being used than sat in my garage another decade. They will need a clean up but there's no damage on them and the plastic on the hooks is still springy, doesn't seem brittle. They have been stored out of the light at the back of the garage.

Edit: Universal, not Kalahari

In fairness to Ashley Karrimor were churning out crap in 1997, long before he took over.

My Karrimor iberian still going strong , not used as much now, the odd supermarket shop by bike and the occasional camping touring holiday or bulky stuff moved on the commute. But wow they have done some miles esp the righhandside one when I commuted some crazy miles each day.
These were and may still be well sort after, I remember on CTC touring holidays everyone was trying to get a set. Although not water proof they were (in there day) very lightweight compared to others. Not shopped for panniers recently but new models do seem to weigh a lot empty! They the original lightweight bike packing choice HA HA. Mine do not have the clip which secure them to the rack so a rough road or a big bump may unclip them....! I think the later models had a click system. They are tardis like and stretch at the top to pack last minute extras when shopping at the end of a days ride.

I have a pair of Universal 3 panniers in KS100e fabric (IIRC) - the orange coloured ones - which I bought in the late 80s as a schoolboy and haven't been used much since! Good condition as been stored in the house all their life.
