i have this orange c-16r with a crease in the down tube 3" in from the steer-er tube other then that and the lack of wheels has this seriously devalued this excellent original condition bike and can something be done or is it scrap time?

Scrap I'm afraid. You'll get some cash for the parts though.

You can have a new tube put in, but really, it's not worth it. Shame though, lovely bikes.

I don't suppose there's very faint stress marks at the top of the fork legs?
That is exactly the same bike and kit and damage that happened to mine about 15 years ago. Sent it back to orange who lost it and they replaced it with a p7.

There's a whole list of repair prices at argoscycles.com.
Edit-£110 to fit the downtube, plus spraying if needed, plus carriage, and you're into new frame money.

So £70 to replace downtube. Plus respray.

Is it worth it?

How attached to it are you? If you are very attached then be it will be worth it. If not then it' a Coatsey says you could get a new frame instead.

Hoofed it into a hidden tree stump com in down the crags in Dumbarton.
Flew clear over the bars and landed on my back.
Assumed the front wheel would be gubbed, turned out
The top tube was snapped and the down tube wasn't any better.

If you love the frame, then I would say yes it is. I paid Bob Jackson over £300 some years ago to renovate my C16R (removal of all braze ons, addition of disc mounts and hose guides to frame and forks, fork steerer sleeved and extended to accept ahead stem, etc). In retrospect, it was sacrilage to drag it kicking and screaming into the 21st century but at the time I loved it to bits.

Before . . .

After 😕 . . .

i do love this bike,when i was 16 a orange c-16r was my 4th owned bike and 1st real mtb,i loved it.
i am so confused as to what to do with this one, frame says no condition of parts scream let us live! i would love the original wheel set or at least the rims as i have the hubs but i never factor in the cost of frame repairs.
OH WHAT TO DO!?
thanks for the input so far guys

its not about whether its worth it financially, its about whether you really, really want to keep the frame.
only you can answer that one bud.
i would, its a bit of history.
