Hey guys, I was looking at some 24hr races a week or so ago and one had a category which only included bikes that were a certain age or older (I think it was pre-1990) any of you guys know which it is? Or any MTB races which have a similar category.

Yours, an impending owner of a 1989 Rockhopper.

Check out retrobike.com
All the details should be there.
Like you, I'm just getting into racing old bikes again, but I've not got enough info or courage to find out more yet. Just incase there are some really fast guys racing that make me look average.
I used to be good, but these days I just don't know.

Beauty! I'll dig out my Flying Scot.

Should I leave the mudguards on? 🙂

Good luck! I built up a Bontrager Privateer and after about 3 rides I went back to my 575. Felt as if I'd been duffed up by some angry chavs. If YOU are retro, don't ride a retro bike (on anything other than smooth trails!) oof, me poor back...
Stretched out riding position, ineffective suspension, skinny tyres, crummy gear shifting, cheesy brakes. No thanks!

During the 2009 Pool Pottle there was a bloke there on an ancient Klein riding up the hills where loads of us struggled to push our modern bikes. You want to race him? Would you box Klitchko?
