http://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/knocked-off-my-bike-twice-in-a-week-unlucky-or-are-people-just-so-bloody-stupid

Got a letter from my solicitors(union) today telling me how much the other parties insurance company has agreed to pay me £2.5k

1k for injury bruised rib one possibly broken.
1.5 for damage to bike! Took my bike in for a quote from a big shop close to me and they told me to replace everything carbon on it stem, bars, forks seatpost, saddle and to replace levers and sort front wheel out now front wheel has been sorted but I am going to take a chance on the rest and bling up a SS I have just bought, only down side is the 1.5k will be a cheque made out to the bikeshop so will be buying everything @ RRP 😕

RRP will be fine, once you switch the price labels as usual...

Absolutely not, I have that this is the way to be and tough shit on those who can't afford premiums, they should just make a spurious claim to get their money back. There is a beast that needs feeding.
As I said I hope that bike is enjoyed.

Not a lot of point having insurance if you aren't going to use it, Don. Doesn't sound like a spurious claim to me...

Postierich, hope you are fully recovered enough to enjoy your compensation, any injury to the ribs is a proper twit

pretty sure he did crash and was injured ..this is hardly a spurious claim or a an exaggerated one.
I share your annoyance at those who do this but the OP is not one of them.

I din't say that the OP made a spurious claim. Let's nip that one in the bud, eh?
EDIT: That said 1k for a broken rib isn't too bad. 😉

labels switched that was posterioritch 😉

As for insurance premiums going up I pay insurance! could have got a lot worse for the insurance company could have taken them for loss of earnings for the 6 weeks I was strapped up but work were good to me and gave me light duties for the duration and I could have used a taxi to get me around while my bike was off the road .I,m still taking the risk with the carbon forks that are battered and the other components and yes I provided photos for the damage and evidence from the police and paramedics so not as though I faked it.
Just a heads up to people to claim its your right, my union were invaluable in getting me sorted.

I have no problem with premiums rising to cover legitimate claims - hopefully it will price the less careful drivers off the roads....

What risk are you taking? One that's been compensated for by pocketing the cash?

£1k for a bruised/broken rib? I got the same for a stiff neck! Went towards an MSc, so had no qualms about taking it.

Unions provide Solicitors, who come in handy when you properly injured by a 3rd party.

Rich you can insist on the both cheques being made out to you they can't force you to except the cheque made out to the shop.

I was also knocked off my bike too! - 30th January this year.

Also using my work Union to sort my claim.

I broke 2 metatarsals, hoping my personal injury compensation is more than £1k tho!

Who cares about increasing insurance premiums! - You got what you were due.

Alan.

Why don't these insurers etc pay out the injured party?

Why do they insist on paying the mender direct?

A while back a Tesco van knocked into my back wall and displaced it. After denials and a police farce I got them to pay up.......but they paid my builder direct.

In January a lorry being used in a local major pipeline installation reversed into me. It was being run by the UK branch of a big pipe laying company. They have run me a six month dance before it was revealed that they were not insured. They have now done the decent thing and paid out.......... but they paid the panelbeater, not me.

Why?

I'm the owner FFS!

but they paid the panelbeater, not me

Because the insurance company will have contacted the builder/panel beater that supplied the quote and offered them the work if they accept a discounted payment. Happens all the time.

As someone else has already said, you don't need to accept this. Contact insurance company and demand payment is made to you.

*Scratches chin*

I'll start the ball rolling with £50, but only if I get to break it 😉

great result. Why would the insurance company pay the bike shop anyway, they weren't the victim here.

Well done

as regards insurance premiums. If car drivers drive into cyclists causing injury and bike damage then premiums will increase to compensate the injured parties

Thats not the same as premiums increasing due people claiming for injuries that didn't happen or delibrately causing accidents as a scam
