.... recommendations please, for a nice old steel hardtail.
It's in bits at the moment and I've never liked the colour.
Thanks in advance.
LSN Coatings in Castleford have always done a first class job at a reasonable price for us
Bob Jackson in Leeds.
Lovely work.
I'm after having my old Soul frame done. Previous threads on here have suggested either LSN or Triple S coatings in Bingly for powder coating.
I just need to remove the bloody seat post. 😡
LSN in Castleford. Much better job than Triple S when I used them (used both) and LSN are crazy cheap too. Well worth the drive over.
I live in Huddersfield and it's a pian to travel to Castleford to LSN but I won't go anywhere else, had 5 frames done with them now.
From my experience triple s do the better finish but LSN are not far off and are considerably cheaper. Not used either for 5 years or so though.
Thanks everyone.
In Burnley so not that far.
Much appreciated.
The 'What colour?' thread will be along presently.
LSN paint jobs of mine.
I've had Retrobike experts look at this Kona of mine and they don't beleive me that it's powder coat. Much better job than Triple S.

This DMR has a very shallow stamp on the dropout. Their powder isn't applied thick and gloopy so you don't get the orange peel effect and all the details remain.

Also it's very shiny for powder coat...
And no I don't work for them, I just like to promote a good company if they've consistently done great work.
How did you protect the decals... Presuming that they were applied after you got the frame back from LSN? Additional lacquer coat self applied or what?
Rusty - these guys are down the road from you in Burnley - E-Reg coatings
They did a cracking job of my P7. Acid dipped the frame to strip it, powder coated a matt blue, with a gloss lacquer over the top. Really nice bunch too. Very professional. Everything properly masked off
You could put lacquer over the top but I didn't bother, they are very tough decals I got. The Project2 decals got damaged a little once so I peeled them off again but they are spidery thin so I wasn't surprised.
another recommendation for LSN here..
they did my Rockhopper.. (best bike in the world.. FACT!) 😆
and my inbred..
and ive had alloy wheels and the slam panel from my car done there too..
cheap.. and a brilliant job every time..
on the flipside i had the front triangle on my partners 97 Heckler done at Triple-S a few years ago.. and the finish just hasnt lasted anywhere near as well despite the bike not being used as much.. and it was more expensive..!
I am interested in doing my bike as its now a bit tatty, how much approx does it cost if you dont mind me asking? I am in leeds so Castleford isnt too far so its tempting me.
At LSN it depends on the finish, as some powders are a bit more expensive and how complex the frame too i think.. he prices each job individually for bikes i think..
both my hardtail frames where £40 or possibly £35.. i cant quite remember! both with metal flake powder too
alloy wheels where £120 for all four..
slam panel was £25
all the prices above included blasting..
LSN for the heckler front triangle was £60 for plain satin black and i had already had that soda blasted..!
Space hopper, mines a Rockhopper too.
Love it to bits.
Was considering getting a disc mount added but decided to keep it old school with V's.
🙂
Currently looks like this one.

Will have a look through the old Spesh catalogues on Retrobike and pick something decent - quite fancy a purple, similar to Tracey's daughter's bike up there, maybe a nice metallic green.
Lots to think about, thanks folks.

Bloody hell, that is cheap! Triple S did my Genesis Fortitude frame and forks for about £90, they did a good job, though.
Pennine Powder Coaters, between Todmorden and Hebden Bridge. Run by a guy called Chris, he coats a lot of parts for motorbikes and MTBs.
I didn't like the attitude or the quality of finish from triple s. Stuff was trouble for them, and all the chips in the paint the bike had before the coating were present and correct under the new coating.
I had Triple S do a fork and stem for me and it was about £50. Not very pleasant to deal with in person and the job wasn't nearly as good as LSN.
