I have a Privateer 141 and the front triangle is being replaced under warranty but it’s coming in black when my frame is green. I need the rear triangle resprayed black to match the new front. Does anybody know of somewhere in Central Scotland that could do this?
How about wrapping or powdercoating it? Or just running it two-tone, it's not like you can see the mismatch when riding.
Pentlands powder coating did a great job on a frame for me.
Thanks, folks. I'll give Pentland Powdercoating a call.
Did Privateer offer any sort of support for that? It's a wee bit shit tbh, warranty should put you back where you were before not with an additional cost or an ugly mongrel frame worth half what it should be.
Pentland are good for powdercoating, they're a big industrial style op but they do lovely work and they really understand what people are looking for in stuff like bike frames.
I had a frame (and a bunch of other stuff) done by R&O Wheel Refurbishing, they only really advertise the wheels work but they'll do anything and again, he does a really good job. Probably not quite as familiar with bikes as some, there were some wee mistakes with the masking/coverage but nothing problematic. Also, he really doesn't like to get in new powders/colours, he likes what he knows works and what he's familiar with getting good results out of, I think he's been burned that way before. But still, very good. And really well priced.
Some people recommend Henderson's, I literally grabbed my frame off him and walked away without paying because he'd done such a spectacularly bad job. Blasting media in the finish, frame was still full of it so it'd come out while he was coating it, just absolute amateur hour. And he knows how to do a good job, he just chose to do a bad one and tried to brazen it out. Prick.
Just to throw out other options, I've had two frames done by Acorn Plating- Steve The Anodiser. Not scotland based but easy enough to go by post. Anodising gives a really different, beautiful finish, and it's super tough- basically it dyes the metal, you can't chip it, except when you literally take off surface metal. But it's limited in colours, just because it's pretty transparent- can't really do yellow, white etc. Mine were both a gorgeous dark orange that allowed the metal underneath to shine through and was really light reactive, in dull sun it went to almost red, in bright it was sparkly and vivid. Also it is entire grams lighter.
And Cerakote Up North, for... dur, cerakoting. Again a wee bit limited on colours but the finish is both lovely and extremely tough. I've not had a bike done but he did the Cotic/Neko Mulally Frameworks crossover bike with the stormtrooper white. I will throw a wee caution here, one job I had done came back a pretty different colour and finish to what was requested, despite him saying that he could perfectly match the part. It wasn't a huge problem but it could have been. But I'd still use him again and am kind of planning to, if some things work out.
