Anybody have experience of either of these tyres? I’ve ordered a new gravel bike and chose the gravel kings but they offer the choice of wtb resolute as well. I’ll be riding from the door mostly and heading into the Pentlands or the hills in the Borders or Perthshire. I’m thinking the resolute would be better off road but unsure if it’ll be more draggy on the road. Any thoughts?

I have 38mm Gravelking SKs on my CX bike and have ridden round Pentlands a lot as well as the Sustrans estate (Dalmeny/Hopetoun) paths towards Boness and the old railway lines into East Lothian etc.
They've been great for that, never had any problems and have seemed fine on the roads. A little slower than a slick, but not much. The slick Gravelkings aren't very good though - they puncture very easily, even tubeless. Go for the SK ones.

Haven't tried the Resolutes so can't help there.

My new gravel bike came with 42mm resolutes and they aren’t noticeably draggy on road and perform well off road.

Only had a handful of rides so far, but I think the Resolutes feel great.

Resolute's here in 42, they're pretty good on road, great off road. Particularly good in mud weirdly enough.

Mate had gravelkings, better on road but he now also rides Resolute's and does not miss the puncture prone GKs.

Agree about the resolute being quick on road. I think there's a test online somewhere that seems to confirm this.

Can't agree about them being good in mud.

Still, a very good tyre for a mix of surfaces.

I suppose it depends on the percentage of on road vs off road , I have to cycle ten to twelve miles to reach off road paths and gravel and did have the resolutes but found them tiresome after that amount of miles. I’ve been searching for a “do it all” alternative and have just ordered a pair of Terreno Dry after reading several positive reviews. Due to arrive in a few days so time will tell.

38mm GravelKing SKs here - been great all rounder until faced with proper mud. There is a grippier version I may go for next winter.

No idea why the slick GravelKing exists as a gravel tyre. Great as a winter road tyre I'm finding, but rubbish on anything off road and moist.

Resolute for all year round, surprisingly ok in the mud of winter too. GK for summer based on personal experience & the trails I ride on

Resolute is excellent - I spent ages fretting over tyres and the 42c Resolute reviewed very well - they roll really well on tarmac for their size and work great off road too. Highly reccomended here!

Resolutes over GKs. Tried the GKs after reviews and recommendations from here but don't see what the fuss is about. Probably not helped by getting a puncture early on. Day-to-day I can't see past Schwalbe G1s. If I was doing an event with some proper off-road then I'll slip the Resolutes on for more volume and grip. They are great. Fast rolling on the road too.

My exact experience. Cant help but think mine were not set up tubeless made matters worse. I have tried a few gravel tyres over the last 12+ months and found Teravail Rutlands the best.

This has got a pretty good rundown of whats out right now https://advntr.cc/best-winter-gravel-bike-tyres

Thanks folks. I think I’m going to change to the resolutes going by the general consensus.

I really like the look of the Washburn which I’ll maybe try when the new bike arrives (in May!)

I like my 42mm Resolutes. They're performing well in current damp conditions.

I don’t think you can go too far wrong with nanos in the winter on and off rd. They just seem to work off rd and aren’t too much of a drag on road. Currently got ventures on my gravel bike, 2.0 version. They’re remarkably non draggy and great on muddy gravel tracks round here but I don’t think they’d be as good as the nano on mucky bridleways.

My personal experience of the resolutes was that they were slower than the gravel kings but had more off road grip. They were also an absolute bitch to get fitted to my rims (stans crest mk3). Gravelking SKs are a great compromise and quite long lived but my ultimate favourite is the G-One.

Nanos are on my current bike and I love them.

my ultimate favourite is the G-One.

These are actually available on the spec list of the bike I’ve ordered. They’re an extra £38 so I’d ruled them out. What makes them your favourite?
