Didn't think I was going to have to resolve this for a couple of months but my waterproof jacket, and probably the shorts too, could do with reproofing.

A walker friend has recommended Nikwax TX direct, wash in then spray. Before I try it, is there something that works better for bike gear that gets a lot of washing?

You could just run the jacket in soapflakes and once dry, just use a water proofing spray.

Thats what the lady from Endura told me. Works so far.

Worth a try once I've got it back up to standard. Still need to proof it in the meantime.

I use Nikwax, but then I don't wash my waterproof kit all that much, it tends to shed mud well so it gets the hose when it needs it.

grangers - you wash the item in it then spin dry on a low temperature.
Has always worked for me.

might be a stupid question but
does every waterproof jacket/garment need waterproofing in its life?

I have a berghaus goretex jacket that is about 5-6 years old,
doesnt seem to repel like it used to

I use Nikwax's proofing stuff. Purely because you can buy it reasonably cheaply at Go Outdoors & Sports Direct. I picked up a litre of tech wash and reproofer for around a tenner a bottle.

I looked at Graingers kit, have read good reviews, but their range is huge, and my simple mind was confused 😀

Pretty much all goretex type materials will need to be reproofed - even if you never wash them, the water repellent coating gets rubbed off, and the gaps in the weave that make it breatheable can be blocked with muck.
