I've got a Sonder Camino AL and at first I loved the Riddler 37mm tyres that came with it as they were great on mixed terrain. Annoyingly in the last 6 months I've had a stupid amount of punctures ...mostly thorns.

So what Riddler like pattern tyre can I replace them with? Max width 38mm but with puncture protection. Before you say it, I'm not going tubeless as I'm too stupid to set them up.

Any ideas?

Tubeless. Sorry had to be said. If you cant do it, your LBS will do it for you.

Anyway tyre wise, Gravelking SK is the stock answer. or I like Kenda Flintridge for a tough tyre that grips really well.

WTB Nanos, 40mm but according to the Alpkit website the Camino AL has clearance for them.

As above, go tubeless - not had a single puncture on my Riddlers

It's a v1 Camino and Alpkit reckon the Nanos are too wide for it, hence max 38mm

The wheelset is the standard LoveMud Orbit so tubeless ready, so going tubeless is tempting but a little scary. What happens if I'm 20km from the road in France or somewhere and I have a problem?

Stick in the spare tube you'll be carrying.

Plenty online and I think STW did one but here's a page https://thecycleclinic.co.uk/blogs/news/living-with-tubeless-tyres that's more road oriented about dealing with things out on the trail/road.

The only time I've had a problem out on the trails is when I've dinged the rim and the tyre wouldn't seal - the ding was bad enough that I trashed the rim. Apart from that, tubeless is virtually fit and forget, you just need to top up the sealant now and again.

Gravelking SK or G-ones are small knobble tyres like the riddler, Nanos are more tready and slower on the road IME

Hello ElShamino

I posted a very similar thread a few months ago: loved the Riddlers, but I was averaging more than a puncture per week.
I replaced them with Vittoria Revolutions. These may well not fit your use case, as they have much less tread. However:

- they are great on the road. Loads faster and no problems with grip
- they are good for light-to-medium off road when it's dry
- they are ok in the wet
- I have not had a single puncture since I got them
- they are useless on wet grass

Take a look, I could not be more pleased with mine.

I had the same problem with Riddlers and switched to Gravel King SK. Much better puncture protection, good enough grip, ok on the road.

I've recently bought 3 tubes so I'll stick with normal tyres for now.

Also, I emailed AlpKit and they said I could go up to 40mm max on the v1 Camino.  So the WTB Nanos may well fit.

@scotroutes - silly Q, why would you carry a spare tube?

If you get a problem big enough that tubeless doesn't work you'll then need a tube. most folks running tubeless on a biggish ride (where you can't or don't want to walk home) will carry a tube

I have riddler 45c on mine set up as tubeless. Many miles completed inc. week cycling on/off road in france and still not had a puncture.

Thumbs up for 40c Nanos. First ride I still had tubes in = a double puncture. However after setting up tubeless they have been flawless over hundreds of miles and also racing at Grinduro recently.

Tempted to put a 45c Riddler up front for extra bite though 🤔
