Hi all,
I have a cheap Halfords track pump ( https://www.halfords.com/cycling/bike-maintenance/bike-pumps/halfords-metal-track-bike-pump-with-gauge ) that I've had for years and not had any issues with, but the valve has now fallen apart.
I'd rather not have to replace the whole thing just because of a bad valve, so looking to just get a new valve. Do most brands have the same hose diameter? This head looks to have a plastic piece inserted into the hose, and then a retaining nut to hold the hose to the head, similar to this:
I would rather a head that has a separate valve for Schrader and Presta, so does anyone have any they would recommend? This SKS Mutli-Valve head looks promising:
On a related note, this Halfords pump has a gauge. How is the gauge on this cheap pump likely to compare to the gauge on something like a SKS Rennkompressor or Joe Blow, in terms of a. repeatability and b. accuracy?
(Assuming this is the only pump I use repeatability is more important than accuracy)
Thanks,
Duane.
I got the sks one which I fitted to another pump. The hose was a tiny bit small but I coaxed it home and it works great.
I would say that most hoses are going to be in the neighbourhood of each other.
I replaced mine with the Decathlon one. It was so good I replaced two other working ones immediately and have not regretted doing so. It's cheap but excellent quality. Seals perfectly every time and the lever releases the valve properly so no air escapes and it doesn't wear the rubber seal.

2nd SKS, put one on compressor line and works great.
Topeak Smarthead on my SKS Renn. Need to warm the tubing, but they do go on eventually. Woods are an issue but Schrader and Presta great.
I tend to avoid any that claims to be smart, they rarely work and even less likely to last. Although I've not tired the topeak one.
Topeak Twinhead (the metal one, not the plastic "max" one) is pretty indestructible (and re-buildable) IME, £9 online, one of those faffy little things that isn't worth saving £4 on a plastic one that will at some point frustrate you!
Thanks all, have ordered the SKS head!
That SKS one looks like the one I replaced which occasionally decided to lock onto the hole without a valve in for no good reason. All pumping then resulted in a hissing noise and no inflation, very frustrating. Hopefully the SKS one is better, the Decathlon one certainly is since there's a very clear valve to go one side or the other and nothing fancy inside trying to use air pressure to determine which hole to use.
If the house is a bit tight try warming it in a mug of got water
My house definitely won't fit in a mug of water. Neither will my hose, come to think of it 😉
Topeak super chuck, brilliant, and last forever. Mine will go on my next track pump.
