[Closed] Replacing Promax Rendeer for TRP Spyre. Straight forward?

The Promax Render mechanical disc brakes on my Cannondale CAADX 105 are not great and today, during a tune up, I have rounded some of the bolts off. In short, they need to go.

I believe my current disc brakes are post mount. I am running a 160mm rotor up front and a 140mm rotor at the rear. It looks as thought the front brake has some sort of adapter, presumably to allow the 160mm rotor. This setup is what came on the bike off the shelf.

Can I change the brakes straight out and install TRP Spyres (link to the specific model)? Will two of these do the trick, or is the disc brake manufactured for EITHER 160mm or 140mm? I don’t intend to replace the rotors at this time.

Thanks all!

PS. Current price are:

Pair of Avid BB7 Road (incl. rotors) – £72

Pair of TRP Spyre (excl. rotors) – £92

I’m right to go with the Spyres yeah? Again, I don’t desperately require rotors.

You can make the straight swap - the caliper will fit any disk size, you just need the appropriate adapters, which you have.

I made this exact swap on my CAADX and I wouldn't say you were right to go with the spyres, no, as they are shabite. They are are somewhat easier to adjust than the renders but they're not a better performing brake.

I ended up binning them and getting hydros for my CX bike that I ride on the road quite a bit - expensive but I was taking my life in my hands on descents with the spyres. I have an older caadx as a second race bike that I put some hayes calipers on (cheaper than spyres) which were recommended by a friend and seem good thus far. Braking is less of a big deal between the tapes though.

I changed my brakes on my caad x for trp hy-rds. They've been good and although quite pricey they're much cheaper than switching to full hydraulics. I had bb7s on a mountain bike before and they were alright, a lot better than the renders on the Caad X which are truly awful. I think it'd be worth having a look into the hy-rds.

Sorry to be a party pooper but I put Spyres on my CAADX and they've been ace. Straight swap assuming you have enough cable. The pads need bedding in as they're alarmingly shite initially, soon pick up though.

I use Spyres on another couple of bikes as well and really like them.

Use new inners and compressionless outer and the TRPs will be great

Thanks for all the advice. Just gone ahead and ordered BB7s in the end.
