Anyone done the above job? I need to replace mine as the lever sometimes returns slow and no amount of bleeding will keep the bite point in the same place. Air is likely getting in somewhere but no fluid is leaking.

I've got the parts but before I take the lever appart, is there anything particularly tricky I need to be prepared for?

Sounds like sticky piston which is common, I've done a couple the main thing is note where return spring goes also the circlip can be had to remove I had to modify some pliers to get them to fit.

I've had the sticky pistn issue - fixed with the revised ones, and no trouble since.

Fairly straight forward to disassemble. The circlip is a bit tricky to remove as it's so small and it's recessed. Couldn't use a plier, so used a small screwdriver bit with a fine point on it (or a pick).

You'll bend it coming out, but they bend back in shape. Beneith the circlip is a washer.

When you re assemble, you'll need to press the piston back in with a fine screwdriver/pick as it's sprung). Pop the washer on the pick/screwdriver first. As you push the piston back in, you'll see the recess for the circlip. With another pic/screwdriver, push the washer into one side of the recess. This will stop the spring and piston coming out, and gives you enough time to get the circip, then push it back into place.

That's the tricky bit done. Carefully re-assemble remembering whene the servo arm fits.

Thanks. I think I have some old screwdrivers I could modify to help remove the circlip.

When I bought the internals they came with the tool, I think. Let me just check.

Yes, that red thing is the tool for removing and replacing the piston. It was pretty easy, and the brake has been great since.

That kit has the RSC piston and tool - you don't need the tool with R and RS.

Oh, OK, as you were then. I'm not really clued up on all the variants of Guides - mine are Ultimates.

😁They may be posh but it didn't stop them getting sticky pistons. Thought I was really unfit until I realised that the brakes were binding.

Mine arnt binding. Just the lever bite position keeps changing and air keeps getting in the system.

...yet.

At first it's just a slow return, but eventually the piston gets so sticky that the caliper pistons can't retract - then they bind.

I get the slow lever thing when bike is stationery in the sun. Think it’s a common thing on earlier generation models and this thread will hopefully prompt me to fix it!
