I know this seems like a stupid question but I'm going to ask it anyway 🙂
My new bike comes with a 175mm crank and my tiny legs much prefer 170mm. If I wanted to swap to 170mm cranks do I need to by a single ring specific set?
I have the 1x10 set up with a 42t extender on the rear.
I've only ever had doubles/triples before and don't want to make the mistake and ruin the chainline.
Any advice would be great.
Triple and run the ring in the middle position. Proper doubles (i.e. ones that aren't triples that have been bastardised as "double and bash") have different chainring offsets and are not ideal for running as 1x
I'd buy SLX or XT triple, sell the rings and pop a NW ring on the existing middle ring tabs. I have had XT triples set up this way and all have been faultless for years...
unless you have Sram then just buy a spiderless crankset and a direct mount ring - perfect chainline easily achieved.
I have a brand new 34t race face NW on the cranks coming, so I just need to buy the triple and fit that instead.
Perfect, might look for just cranks first mind.
I got a set of XTR m970 from a lady racer on Pinkbike recently.
£150 including rings, bb, tools...bargain.

Bit pricey for me but thanks for the heads up.
SLX/XT/Zee will do me.
Hopefully if I stick up a wanted ad I'll be able to get just the cranks.
