The SRAM DB5 brakes that came on my hardtail have been a bit iffy in terms of sticking and have been getting worse recently. I thought it was crud on the caliper pistons and cleaned out etc but I think it's now the plunger/pistons in the levers after googling and seeing these have a known problem. The rear is now pretty much stuck and not releasing. I'm fed up with them and rather than wasting more time farting about I'm looking for something else. Any recommendations? I like Shimano stuff for reliability and ease of maintenance normally - seen SLX set for about £120, any good, or spend less on Deore or more on XT? Anything else for around that budget? Cheers

Shimano aren’t currently renowned for their reliability to be fair at the moment.

I’d pick up some sram guides personally - assuming the db5 had enough power for you. The guides will be stronger than those and apart from some early lever failures in hot weather they’re pretty reliable.

I’ve been running them for about 3 years or so across 3 bikes with no dramas at all. The standard resin pads are ok in the dry weather but don’t last well in the wet. I usually run uberbike sintered over the winter and race matrix in thhe summer. If you go on eBay you can often get a brand new pair of Guide r’s that people have swapped off a new bike for Hopes for a bargain.

I've used Deore for years. Just works for me.
