my pikes have that csu creak, I think they are just out of warranty but I will try anyway. So I’m probably going to replace them so I can keep riding and if they get warranted they can be passed down to the hardtail.
Running a luftkappa in them and I really like them so any one know if I can transfer the luftkappa into a new set?
Alternatively I’m toying with a lyrik, mrp ribbon or helm coil. Loving the coil on the rear so wondering if a coil up front would be good. In hindsight I should have bought some of those dirt cheap 36’s CRC had a month back!
Oooh,, didn't know there was a coil Helm out. I'm running a pike with coil conversion and love it, I've become a bit of a coil convert. Looks like I have some new kit to add to my wish list, so I guess I'd be pumping for the coil helm in your position.
My Pike coil conversion added about 300g to overall fork weight, which is initially noticeable, but you soon get used to it and the benefit of the coil for me outweighs the small weight increase - it solves all the 'problems' I had with the air spring. I would guess if a fork had been built from the ground up as a coil fork rather than an air fork with a coil conversion the weight penalty would be less - looks like the weight penalty of the coil Helm vs. air Helm is 200g, which is not a lot really.
Yeah I don’t think that weight increase will matter too much, it’s more performance I’m thinking about. That luftkappa makes my pikes real sensitive at the start which massively improved the fork. I’m just so torn, all my mates just say get a 36.
So I guess Its a what fork should I get kind of post!
Bike is airdrop edit running a ccdb coil.
I'm running some Lyrik Rc's on my Edit with a CCDB Air out the back, very well matched and a more than competent fork.
Chat to Ed see if he has any deals on forks available.
I really like MRP forks. The ribbon is a belter. I am still running a stage but have a ribbon coil on order. I get a reasonable deal from my LBS but I would happily pay a lot more for them.
Also have a look at Manitou Mattoc Pro forks. Saw a brand new set in pinkbike yesterday. My mate is running them and so far has been blown away
The mattoc pro was on crc very cheap...
I have the Mattoc’s on one bike and 2015 Pikes with Luftcappe on another.
Its hard to chose between the two. Pre luftcappe, the Mattoc wins in my opinion. I’m trying to resist buying another set as my Pikes creak a bit too. I need to check and grease bits, however the Mattocs won’t be cheap forever.
How terminal is a creaky fork??
No idea! My mechanic mate said he has never heard of the steerer full detaching itself form the crown but also said most people don’t let it go that far!
I rode a mates mattoc and wasn’t that impressed with it, not sure if it was the pro version or not. Start fitness have a 2018 lyrik for 600. Can’t find a lot that’s that cheap
