Whilst hoping that a friend can fix my longstanding Pioneer A300x amp, I was wondering if there are any knowledgable people on here who could recommend a suitable alternative. It'll play with a NAD CD, Linn speakers and mainly iTunes via Airplay. My music likes are very varied, Pink Floyd, Katie Melua etc...

Any suggestions welcome.

Dave

SO you don't need one but want to think about what to buy if you do?

I have an Arcam Alpha3 and it's been really good for the money. Just looked at the website and it seems like it's discontinued though.

I bought an Audiolab 8000S and Audiolab 8000P for not much over £400 s/h a couple of years ago.

lovely pre - power combo.

They replaced a Rega Brio and to be fair, whilst the Audiolab stuff sounded better and gave a nice stereo sound-stage, I was left feeling the Brio was bloody good for its money. (£298) considering the Audiolab stuff would have been IRO £800 new.

I'd go so far as to say they, in a head to head Brio vs the Audiolab 8000S (set on integrated amp mode) the Brio would be nicest IMO.

So, I'm either recommending an Audiolab pre Power combo or a Rega Brio. it depends upon your wallet I guess.

Been hummin an harrin a couple of weeks now over an amp, but I want to play over DLNA/wifi rather then airplay.

Not sure how you intend to connect but onkyo a-5vl has a good DAC and two optical connections. Rotel RA-10 gets good reviews but its the Rotel RA-11 that has an integrated DAC. Denon DNP 720 AE is a tuner with airplay and dac. Onkyo tx8050 looks good too.

Have also been considering mini hifis Pioneer X-HM71-K, Marantz MCR603 & Onkyo CR-N755, the former have airplay.

Thanks for the recommendations, Audiolab has been in my mind, but I'll have a look the Rega and Rotel too.

Cheers

Creek stuff is normally very good for the money.

Friend trialled an audiolab 8000a against a much cheaper creek, and the creek was a lot nicer. I have never thought much of audiolab stuff though.

I just got hold of an black, ex-demo Rotel RA-10 integrated amplifier for 239GBP which replaced an old Arcam A60, I am hearing new sounds from my CD collection that surprised me, I guess products do improve with new technology. Would recommend that model to you.
