I recently purchased the new Shimano XT 4 pot brakes and need some new brake pads. I typically go for OEM replacements, but Shimano charges a fortune for them!!! About GBP40 for a set of two finned ones (I believe they're the same one used on Saint calipers). Any alternative recommendations?
I got a load of Uberbike ones when they had an offer on. They do finned and non-finned variants.

Thanks!
They usually have Bank Holiday discounts so may be worth while waiting a few days. We run the Race Matrix in our Saints
Nukeproof were cheap on CRC, they're pretty good. https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/nukeproof-shimano-saint-zee-trp-quadiem-slate-pads/rp-prod129817
Not finned, but fins are just for looks anyway 🙂

I was wondering whether they do all that much aside from rattling actually - what's the consensus on this?
I've had 2 sets of Nukeproof ones for my Zees and i've been very impressed. I'm a heavy rider and they stop me dead!
Looks like the code is UBER10
what’s the consensus on this
There is none.
Uberbike race matrix here , very strong last a while even with runs off the daft stuff in the Lakes . like a few im waiting till bank holiday Monday for a cheeky discount for another set 🙂
The theory is nice, overheated brakes are known to be less effective than when working in their design parameters. The question is whether you truly believe you will overheat your brakes. Probably worth noting it’s normal for overcooled brakes to be less effective too, so it’s possible that a more careful rider is actually making their brakes worse with finned pads.
I think it’s one of those things that is squarely in ‘do you want to believe?’ land, and if you believe they will be better you should use them because for most riders psychological effect is probably more important.
You can just use the Shimano non finned ones if you want cheaper OEM ones (I run non finned in the Zee brakes on my DH bike, no issues).
