Possible numpty question alert, apologies.

The Giant contact dropper on my 2018 Trance 2 is on its way out. I've nursed it along for a while with regular strip down/clean/rebuilds and a cable change but it takes less and less to make it stick. The plastic ribs which stop it rotating in the tube are worn contributing to the stiction and allowing it to twist with little sideways pressure on the saddle.

So... time to replace I think. Budget is an issue so looking at Brand X ascend internally routed.

3 questions:

Are the Brand X droppers reliable?

Can I use the 150mm one? Pretty sure the Giant dropper is 120 or 125mm. Wouldn't mind a bit of extra clearance if I can get away with it.

I've measured the diameter of the old dropper at 30.52mm so presume I need a 30.9mm Ascend?

I have several, they have all been good so far. Cheap enough to bin them when they start to play up.

You'll need to measure how far you can insert your current post into your frame, then compare the lengths of the two posts. You're probably going to need to be able to insert your current post another 50 mm into your frame (25 mm more drop will probably mean a 50 mm longer post), but the only way to be sure is to compare the posts and see if there's enough room.

Yeah fine as long as you have 25mm free between under the collar of your existing dropper and top of seat clamp given your new dropper will be inserted further if 150mm

And yeah, 30.9mm

The bottom half of the post will also be 25 mm longer, so you need 50 mm extra insertion into the frame.

Measured the distance from the bottom of the collar to the base of the dropper as 245mm. The same distance on the Brand X is 254mm according to the CRC website. I currently have 40mm clearance below the collar when my saddle height is set so should have loads of room. Wondering now if I could fit a 170mm 🤔
