Hi

Was wondering if anyone has done this before?

Got a pair of Sidi Dominator shoes and had them for four years. Best shoes I have ever had and still going strong, they seem indestructable. However, the velcro fastening straps are now not doing what velcro is meant to do and finding during rides straps coming undone.

New Sidis are a lot of dosh and can't see the point of spending loads on a new pair when I'm hoping they can be repaired. So has anyone re-velcro'ed their shoes. Found a site that sell heavy duty stick on velcro. The Sidis are stick on and seem to peel off easily.

cheers

you can just buy strips of velcro. the heavy duty velcro is probably over priced so i would just find the normal stuff. then cut off the old velcro and then sew or use contact adhesive to put on the new stuff. or does it just need washing? if it is clogged with mud or something you could give it a good scrub and see what happens

Just got some heavy duty strips for £4 and will see what happens. I think they lost their 'stickiness' through being over scrubbed.

Just wondering if anyone else has done it? Fingers crossed it works!

Going to visit the cobblers this morning and see what he has to say. Otherwise my local dry cleaners have repaired a number of bike shorts in the past and seeing as their sewing machines can handle leather they might be able to do it too. Watch this space......

The velcro finally arrived and last night I fitted. The best thing was the fuzzy section works with the existing hook part. So just peeled off the old fuzzy stuff, cut the replacement, stuck on and hey presto it all works like now. The test will be now if they withstand getting soggy and muddy. Otherwise a very cheap fix.
