Reading the reviews I can find, I think I’ve narrowed it down to X-Tools Workshop Prep Stand Pro (£80) versus Park Tool PCS-10 (£110-125) or, possibly the Bike-Tools-Workstand-Master (£65-99) but I’m trying to find someone who has used them for a genuine comparison.

Obviously prefer to spend less if they compare well but willing to pay more if there is a clear advantage to any. If there are any others I should consider, please suggest them. It’s going to be used at home mostly, but does need to fold away easily and be portable for the odd days racing.

And yes, already reviewed this thread http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/biting-the-bullet

I have one of the bike tools workstand jobs.

TBH I sometimes think I'd have been better off with a higher quality unit - it can get unbalanced (necessitating the positioning of a bag of grit, or removal of front wheel), the clamp needs careful use and you can't be too rough with it if you are working on a rel heavy MTB ... or a tandem.

But it does the job, is a massive advance over having no stand, and is a darn sight cheaper than most proper stands, its also a fair chunk lighter and folds up pretty well if you want to bung it in the back of the car for a 24 h race or something. Its been fine for the 5 years or so I've had it, servicing my collection of 8 bikes.

Look around for an Ultimate or Feedback on sale, or I think Topeak do a tripod based one - tripods are nice and stable whereas two legged ones like Minoura and bike tools are not.

I have one of these , they can be bought cheaper than the £86 that they cost on this link. It's very stable no matter what angle the bikes at.

If you want something really good for under £150 you got to look at Feedback (were Ultimate) stands (as said up there ^^^).

Can be found for about £130(ish). Very stable, excellent simple clamp, easily folds up small:

Mine's going strong after 6+ years of use.

Ultimate tripod or Topeak are both good stands, you get what you pay for with a work stand.
