I have a cheap dropper from Decathlon. Its an under saddle lever type. It hasnt had a trauma, but today when i have moved the lever it just moves up and down with no resistance. It just seems as though it isnt actuating the mechanism that allows it to drop.
Anyone got any experience of a repair? Or is it a sealed unit?
Thanks
Ian

I've never worked on this post BUT I'd start taking it to pieces to see what the problem is.

You've got nothing to lose - it's already broken and can't get much worse!

Im slightly worried that i cant see an air valve..so i may be disassembling a cylinder at 200psi.

If you never hear from me again, you may be able to guess the reason 😀

Mine played up the other day after years of abuse and neglect - poured a bit of oil into the shaft, now works again. Possibly not good practice on a £200 dropper, but a £29 one?

Take it to a store and ask for a new one?

They stopped selling them years ago. £29 new they were, and that's not in a sale either. Been on my fat bike for 5 years, effectively my winter bike, unloved yet refuses to do anything other than work. Has a slight wobble - no worse than the dropper on my new Whyte.

£29 - it's probably a spring ? Even hydraulic ones aren't bad to service - probably crud stuck somewhere.

I posted up a how to years ago. Can't be bothered to search for it!

The actuation pin (a silver pin) under the lever gets filled with gritty water and seizes into the post, hence you probably won't see it! After you have fixed it fill the channel above the lever with silicone so it doesn't do it again as easily!

You will have to fill the hole with whatever spray lube you've got, leave it to soak then use a mallet or other soft faced hammer and bang on the bottom of the post to free it up. It might only move a fraction at a time. Don't go mad because the post is soft alloy and will crush! It's a combination of smacking the post on the bottom, squirting lube in and pulling at it with pliers, hahaha sounds good right!

I had the same problem, found the how to mentioned above, freed up the pin but it was still broke. So I binned it

Shame they don't do a 27.2, I quite like the simplicity of a danglehandle instead of a cable.
