Anyone running the 35mm version of the Renthal Fatbar or Fatbar lite? I’m thinking of the 760mm Lite with 30 or 40mm rise to go on my bike
I’ve heard differing reports with some saying it’s stiffer than anything and others saying it’s got a surprising amount of give!
So what’s the consensus?
I have used both fatbar lite and lite carbon (both 35) and found them both comfortable and better than the race face bars they replaced. I have a set of carbon lites for sale if interested.
Scrap that. They are 20mm rise.
Hard black alloy versions look good!
I've got a 35mm carbon fatbar lite and it's by far the stiffest carbon bar I've ever used.
I have 35mm carbon fatbars and they are way more supple than the aluminium raceface on my other bike. Noticeably more comfortable.
I rented a SC V10 for a trip to Whistler last year, and it had a 35mm fatbar fitted, Dug a hole in my left palm that was pretty painful by the end of the 4 days I was out there. The braking bumps were pretty severe, but the mechanics at the shop I rented from were as convinced as I was that it was the bar.
Don't have such a bar - but I would be worried about all designs which put too much accelerations into my wrists. The "spring" function of the bar is key to keep fatigue low on your hands/wrists/arms. Stiffer bar means higher accelerations at higher frequencies....
I've carbon Fatbar 35s (800x15mm) on one bike and alloy Burgtecs (also 800x15mm) on the other.
The Renthals are noticeably better at removing vibration/chatter and certainly not overly stiff. I do prefer the shape and look of the Burgtec bars though.
