My old tape needs to be replaced. Ive never taken it off before and Im concerned it will pull the paint off as it is properly stuck. Youtube is full of protector manufacturer videos showing you how delightfully easy it is to remove. Aluminium frame with factory paint. Any tips?
Heat? Chemicals? etc etc.
soften the glue. I debadged my orange swingarm last week, thats gooood glue.
I dont have a heat gun so i used a steam cleaner, basically to keep a flannel at 100degC to get the glue as soft as i could.
Ive seen it done with a regular heatgun, which i suspect is more common. The paint should be fairly tough so you should be able to get it pretty warm, just be careful not to burn it i guess.
We normally use a hairdyer to soften the adhesive on stuff like that, very unlikely to burn anything no matter how hamfisted you happen to be.
Yes, hairdryer, strong fingernails or a soft metal blunt tool to start off. Pull the tape back on itself (hard to describe!) rather than at 90 degrees, less likely to break. Brake cleaner to clean the adhesive off.
GT85 or WD40 to safely remove sticky residue, brake cleaner + rubbing = paint damage.
Heat. Heat is your friend in this situation. Hot air gun, hairdryer, whatever - just get plenty of heat on it then use gt85 or whatever to finish off..
