I've got a rear Bontrager Race Lite wheel (26", badged bonty but spokes are stamped DT so hub may be DT made). Must be about 6 years old and it's given sterling service.

Having removed lock nuts and freehub I'm struggling to get the axle out. After some enthusiastic bashing I'm pretty sure it doesn't hammer out like some others. The non-drive side bearing is pressed into the hub body but the drive side one is smaller and sits in a ring with 2 notches in it. It looks like this needs to be removed. I assume I need either a C-spanner of some sort or something that looks like a cassette remover but with 2 castellations on the inside.

Anyone offer any help with this?

Ta.

Has this got a red stripe round the hub. If it has its a dt swiss hub 370.
Manual is here

Just seen latest post - yes its an old 370 hub - dismantling instructions in pdf - shouldn't need a special tool unless dismantling pawl carrier.

Much obliged bob. Looks like it does hammer out after all and tool is only for pawl carrier like you say.

Shall go and whack harder.

I've replaced bearings on one of these before. Trick is to hit it from the correct side as per instructions.

Well it all looks right and I've been hitting it from the drive side as per the pdf but no joy. I'll leave it with some GT85 sitting in it over night and try again tomorrow unless anyones got any suggestions for reluctant bearings.
