This is the first thing I've had to say in the actual bike forum for a very long time...

I hit the turbo today for the first time since the accident. I actually put on cycling shorts, socks, and shoes to spin my legs for over two months of recovery. In that time, I have put on a horrifying 7kgs and lost an incredible level of fitness, but as of today it is starting to melt.

Forgive me in advance for the exuberant updates over the coming weeks.

Congrats! I got my turbo all set up last night, which it turns out is a total bollocks to do with one hand, so the suffering commences tomorrow. Probably. Unless I can't be bothered.

Good stuff. I bet you're still lighter than me though.

Good news.
Fellow member of the enforced 'turbo club' here after separating my shoulder a week ago.
I purchased a TACX2240 today so may even do some Zwift stuff.

Congratulations! Its no fun when you can't do anything.

I'm currently banned from cycling/exercise while waiting for an angiogram. The bummer being that I'd only just got back cycling again after a knee replacement when I was told to stop :'(

good lad, onwards and upwards.

can i just add, how bloody fantastic it is to get back on the bike after a injury/operation.
i have had 3 long layoffs in the last four years.
the moment you ride out on the bike for the first time is one of the best feelings ever.

Half the folk on here seem to spend the winter riding in their garages anyway so you'll be in good company saxonrider ;). You gonna be ready for that first "warm sun on the back" spring ride?

Great news.
I don't know you but really felt for you after I read about your accident, not sure I could have stayed so positive.
Glad you're on the road to recovery.

Great news. My first ride back was at 6 weeks on a turbo in the garden whilst a certain Sir rode for an hour. Feels great doesn’t it.

You will not have lost as much fitness as you might think. I was offfor a few months but came back to do Ride London in 4 hrs. This year I took three months off till December, but am now back training properly. A few weeks of volume do you wonders.

Weight will fall off.

Was about 4 months before I touched a bike after breaking my spine. Well done.

Good to hear you're well enough to ride, even if just on a turbo.
When I had an enforced stint of turbo-ing I came back fitter than before my injury.
Make sure you don't get sucked into Swift or anything sinister like that though.
😉

Nice one, you've started the journey back to cycling "normality" far sooner than I did.
