After several years away from MTB, I am beginning to get into the idea again. The last MTB I bought was a Highball in 2015 (still got it) but I am aware that things have moved on since then.

Rattling round my head is the idea that I want something full suss that is reasonably relaxed i.e. not XC race geo, on which I can have a bit of a blast, but might also be roped in for all day rides*. (Budget £3.5 to £4k)

I was thinking about the short travel Spectral but am unsure whether this would be overkill....the nearest hills are hours away! Any suggestions of suitable alternatives or indeed, confirmation that the Spectral would suit as a jack of all trades? The Orbea Oiz TR seemed interesting but they no longer seem to be priced as competitively as they were.

*I have a Mason Bokeh and a road bike to fill most of the longer ride requirements.
