My wife said that the limiting factor in how long she can ride on a turbo trainer is the sitting on the saddle. So I was wondering about a recumbent on a trainer. But the garage is a bit cramped and recumbents take up a lot of space. Or do they?

They do... But all is not lost. If your normal storage is hanging vertically from the wall, then they take up a very similar space to an MTB. You do need a little more ceiling height, though. I have a high racer with over seat steering stored like this - let me know if photos would be useful.

There are also some models which fold. The HPVelotech Grasshopper jumps to mind.

I assume you have exhausted the alternative saddle option?

What is it that you're trying to achieve with turbo sessions?

Longer doesn't equal better for a lot of things. Recumbent uses different muscles to an upright.

My second time in one day recommending the Cruzbike.

It doesn't look like it would take up too much space compared to an upright. Not sure if there would be any issue mounting the turbo trainer on the front.
