In my usual way I've become smitten with something completely impractical, in this case a one-off paintjob by a US frame builder.

I don't know what techniques this would require, it's obviously not just a simple paint job, or is it? Just masking off, doing the green bits then lacquer?

Who would be best in the UK to strip an existing aluminium frame and try to recreate this?

Aren’t they (squid) all rattle can jobs? Using spray.bike paints and masking off.

But if you are looking for a painter, I can recommend JMJ designs. He’ll sand back, mask, paint and lacquer, but that design, or something with that much masking off won’t be cheap.

I thought the whole point of Squid is that they're quite messy DIY looking paint jobs. I'd just buy a selection of nice colours and crack on. Rub the finished job down and cover it in 2k lacquer and it'll look pro.

Spray.bike is the paint they use out of rattle cans, I did a frame last year and am respraying it again this winter for a you tube series. It's pretty simple if you take your time and use good tape to mask off. The frame needs keying put the spay bike paint hasn't come off or chopped after lots of use. I'm pretty impressed with it especially as it was a bit rushed the first time.

Shand do some lovely work, but they may be too busy for a 'paint only' commission.

Nice, thanks folks, have contacted JMJ.

Blue Whippet did a great job of my Rourke but I didn't get the sense they'd be up for more complicated designs, but JMJ's gallery is full of them.

Name chance I'd do it myself, struggle to find the time just to swap a set of brakes over, let alone stripping and painting frame and forks! 😂

That looks very like they've done a green undercoat, masked off with (quite roughly) torn bits of tape, sprayed with silver, and then a coat of clear lacquer.

I'd do that myself given a bit of time!
