anyone with experience of this?

Had a week off work with a course of antiobiotics (started after a few days when its wasn't clearing), then a week back at work before a relapse last Tuesday and another, longer course of antiobiotics. Work have told me not to travel or come into the office until 5th November on the assumption I'm sorted by then.

Avoiding all forms of exercise, booze and minimal coffee whilst maximising sleep and fluids.

any clues when I can look at the bike again?

cheers

Matthew

I am into my 7th week, had 4 lots of antibiotics (non for the last 2 weeks)

It has left me tired, weak and with no stamina. Not tried any exercise apart from gentle walking

Seem to have had a relapse this weekend, coughing started with avengance again and phlem is speckelled with green/yellow and orange so am going back to doctors on Monday

My problem is made worse by my asthma

Totally and utterly fed up with it, feels like my life has been taken away from me

Hope you recover soon

Ooooo that sounds distinctly grim, anything you would have done differently whilst ill?
Coming back too early and going straight back into 12 hour days at work was my mistake

Yes with hind sight I wished I had pushed the doctor for more specific anitiboitics from the off, started with a weeks Amoxicillin (did not make the slightest bit of difference) then moved onto Doxycycline then eventually onto Clarithromycin (2 lots)

Think if I had the clarithromycin from the start then it would not have got as strong a hold, I still think a sputem sample should have been taken

Same as you I returned to work after four weeks and dont feel that it is the right move health wise, it is all I can do to get through the day, however in these times it seems the right move in keeping your job wise.

Get lots of sleep 8-9 hours weekdays 9-12 weekends is the best advice I have been given

The problem with antibiotics is that if they prescribe the stronger ones first time eventually the bacteria will become resistant which makes it useless. So initially they'll try to deal with any infections with a lesser antibiotic to see if that cures it.

There is a recognised problem at the moment that to many (not all) GPs will prescribe ABs if the patient nags and complains enough just to shut them up regardless of whether the cause is bacterial or viral (ABs obviously have no effect on viral infections).

Now I am in no way saying that any of you guys have done this before I get flamed on here. But nowadays Drs have to be careful about prescribing them willy-nilly.

Unfortunately that does mean that some people don't get the best AB for them first time. But quite often a mild AB combined with a good immune system will be able to deal with the infection.

Hopefully you'll all be feeling better soon and be back out on your bikes.

i was reticent in going for ABs and the doc noted i'd yaken very few previously.

proper GP, avid cyclist who spent most of (quite a long consultation) discussing various sportifs we'd both done.

sleep is the order of the day, just need to convince the kids......
