Hi all,

We're off to Verbier in two weeks for some alpine goodness. Can anyone recommend particularly good trails in the area/surrounding area that would be worth including in our trip?

We're after nice natural singletrack, technical and rocky is good, or more flowy stuff is fine too. We're happy with a bit of climbing/hiking (probs max 2hrs per day) to get to the good stuff but primarily focused on going down. We'll all on 6" full suss bikes.

This website suggests a few routes; has anybody explored these?

Please no "you won't find anything unguided" comments. I accept we might miss some trails, but having looked at the map I'm confident there's enough there that we can explore for a week, and we generally enjoy our holidays more doing this (Also, I can't afford to go guided and have no chance of booking anything now).

The bikepark lift prices seem pretty reasonable when bought for a few days, but it doesn't say what lifts it includes. Can anyone advise what lifts the bikepark lift pass includes, and what extra lifts the Tour du Mont-Fort lift pass includes?

Cheers for your help,
Lawrence

@Lar - have a search there are a few threads.

Standard bike lifts are Le Chable - Verbier then up to Ruinettes. This year they opened some new trail and run another lift up another 250m or so. Plus Savoleyre and Tzoumaz lifts. A lot of the best trails involve riding to the valley floor (so back up Le Chable lift).

Tour du Mont-Fort is an xc ride with plenty of climbing, a lot of fire roads.

Lar send me an email and I'll give you some pointers. I may see you out there as I should be there week of Aug 18. FYI it's 45 mins to Chamonix/La Tour/Vollocine

Cheers for the swift reply. I had done a quick search and come across the thread above but not found much else.

It sounds as if the Tour du Mont-Fort probably isn't worth bothering with which is good to know.

We're heading out 2nd-10th August, staying in Vollages near(ish) the valley floor so we can descend the good lower level stuff after the lifts have stopped.

We've done a lot of good riding in Chamonix, so had considered a day trip there or Pila if we ran out of stuff, but hopefully we can get enough good rides planned near-ish Verbier that we don't need to travel around too much.

I stayed on the valley floor the other side of Le Chables (nr Lourtier) and I think that's better option than in the resort. The website says the postbus up to Bruson is taking bikes this year (only 4 though) which will open up more riding that side. Bike Verbier uses van uplifts that side I believe.

As an aside for restaurants (depending on what your looking for) Chez Danny on the mountain and Fer au Cheval in Verbier near place central are good. I think the new lift will open up Cabin du Mont Fort with less climbing and I found a place I'd like to try in August - La Marlenaz which is run by the wife of the guy who runs Cabin Mont Fort.

As I said if you don't mind emailing me I can share some stuff with you.

If you really want some fantastic trails hook up with Mat from Alpine Roots. Spent a week recently. Knows the area like the back of his hand. Pretty handy on a bike too. alpineroots-mtb.com

Every trail that Phil showed us a few years back blew my little mind. I'd say he's probably a reasonably good person to speak to.

Tracey,
You need to come to Mountain Air anyway to pay Abigails huge tab, why she needed moon boots and a snowboard in the summer is beyond me. 😆

Check out the new Enduro trails - there's an official map etc. Rode a few a couple of weeks ago and they were excellent. The bike park downhill blue is great too.

@mtbguiding, many thanks. Yes some of those I know but others are new to me. Interesting to see the trails marked up over in Bruson.

Lawrence,

I am heading out to Verbier next week and looking for similar trails (unguided single track). Just wondering how you got on and if you had any tips/trails/advice other than that which has been suggested already?

Thanks,
Henry
