My old camelbak is about on its last legs, there's a few rips and a couple of the clips have now broken.
I'm after something that can store around 2l of water (I think the current bladder is 3l but I never fill it) a coat, spare tubes and pump. Ideally I'd like one with a built in back protector.
The main thing is it needs to be stable on my back, I hate riding with a backpack that moves around. I've noticed some of the new camelbaks come with double sternum straps and thick kidney belt type straps?
What would the people of stw recommend?
Cheers!
I like my Camelbak Kudu. Got a Scott backpack cheap on the recommendation from Tracy for the Mrs that she likes. Was cheap too.

Evoc all the way.
I have a Freeride Enduro Blackline 16L and also a Freeride Enduro 10L.
Both are without doubt the most planted backpacks I've ever tried.
They tend to be longer and wider than the competition which makes them flatter to your back. The back protection insert is very solid feeling but also very light.
Very comfortable and solid feeling with the wide waist strap.
I use a 2L bladder in mine but it's not an Evoc one.
Undoubtedly expensive, and don't even come with a bladder, but unrivalled protection and stability imho.
I have this one plus the bigger one. It's rad.

I actually don't have 3 of them but you know....forum issues blah blah blah.
Another vote for the Scott on Startfitness. START10 may get a further 10% off.
Our daughter competes and in France and Italy has to have a back protector. Since she got the Scott 12 the Evoc one has been in the back of the garage in the camper.
Her opinion is that its far more stable on her back than the Evoc one on the steeper DHs
Thanks for the replies. I'd been looking at the evoc range.
Those Scott ones appear good value though! Not used startfitness before, are they reliable/quick shipping?
What bladder are you running in them?
Another vote for the evoc enduro
I've also got the 16L blackline one and found it to be the best back pack I've used.
Used it for a couple of Enduro races and whilst it's warm it's very stable and comfortable and appears to eliminate the lower back pain I get when using packs.
Would like to get a smaller one also at some point.
Endura mt500 has built in back protector.
I have the endura singletrack & it's brilliant , I have a d30 back protector that it has a pocket for
It is very lightweight, stays in place & well vented
Evoc FR for me.
I got one of the Scott ones from StartFitness - the 16l one, I use a 2 litre source bladder with it, it would easily take a 3 litre one. Its comfortable, but the opening is a bit tight, got to fumble around to find what you want sometimes. Good value though.
It arrived promptly, free delivery.
Evoc FR Trail.
Just the right size, back protector, comfy as.
Startfitness is usually delivered in a couple of days. Using an Osprey bladder.
One thing to note is that evoc offer a free crash replacement on the protector which is removable also.

Were using a Camelbak 2l bladder, works well.
Evoc. I love my Evoc. Makes me wonder why I messed about with other brands.
Evoc FR... it’s brilliant. Best pack on the market.
Evocs here same as everyone else.
(Oddly enough also been using their commuter backpack for years which is crazily still looking as new after daily use for 3+years)
I've spent two days bikepacking in Shropshire with an Evoc FR Enduro blackline on my back. I had a sweaty back (as I would have with any backpack) but it was comfy for the whole time. Bivy bag/quilt/mat in a seat pack, the rest in the bag.
Doesn't bounce around too much, just enough space too.
I have a Freeride Tour too but doesn't get used much so need to move that on. The Tour has a lot more storage space
