We'll probably end up driving down to the Alps and bumming around in a tent until we hit Morzine like we've done a bunch of times, but it's 8 years since I've been to Whistler and I get painful, physical and mental withdrawal symptoms every year. Plus my girlfriend has never been to Canada and I want her to see it before we settle down.

Does anyone know of any decent accommodation for a couple with bike storage? Air bnb is coming in around £1500 for two weeks and most of it is town centre apartments. Lots of them say no bikes allowed indoors. We'd rather not stay in the actual village. We won't be drinking and partying every night and don't want to sleep with ear plugs in. Just need a double bed in a quiet spot riding distance from the lifts.

Someone here will know someone who knows somewhere so it's always worth an ask.

Have you had a look at creakside? Decent few pubs about, good Pizza and there is a lift and new trails connecting it to the main park with a cheap bus ride too, did the hostel place (southside lodge) it was very basic but about 100Can $/night during crankworks and booking late.

Already looking at Creekside. Just thought someone on here might know about something that doesn't show on on Air bnb. What do the locals use for booking accommodation?

ah I used booking.com and hotels.com, I think some stuff was on expedia too so worth a look there too, I've not seen much value in airBnB in popular locations

Also recommend Creekside, stayed at Evolution Apartments, about the same price as the air BnB. I rented a bike  so don't know if they allowed bikes in the apartments, sorry

VRBO for local booking stuff.

Didn't pay much more than that for a summer season on Blackcombe. 5 mins ride from Lost Lake and the park. Shuttle bus if you dont fancy the 15 min walk into town.

Used VRBO the last few years as it's much, much cheaper and bigger range of property.

Following thread. Aiming to do this next year I stead of Alps/finele.

I expect it needs planning though whereas I'm usually very last minute

Stopped here last year (but only 3 nights after doing BC Bike Race), but it was pretty much the cheapest I could find. 5 minute walk to town, bags of space, bikes indoors no problem. Washing machine was a bonus until it broke.

VRBO is popular for looking for stuff. Whistler is popular in the summer so it takes some searching.

We've camped at Riverside Resort twice now, for around a week each. It was quiet, but enough people about to feel safe about thieves (and bears!). We stayed at the fairmont hotel for a few nights too and the camping was much better.

We've just used VRBO to book three weeks for next year in Creekside and paid just shy of £1500, pretty happy as sharing it with my best mate so only costing me half that! Got a sofa bed and a double bed but we have to use a bike communal lock up, going to buy a huge bike lock for the three weeks we're there and then flog it when we go.

Thanks for the info chaps. That VRBO site is a good shout. I just thought they'd be more 'spare room in a normal house' type accommodation but the vast majority is posh condos in giant lodges.

There is a handful of stuff available for our dates but I wish we arranged it a few months ago. We could still go but we'd skint ourselves. We started adding up trains to the airport, transfers to Whistler, spending money etc. Then we saw the price of lift passes!

Maybe it's one for 2019. What's the difference between a 8 and 9 year gap between trips anyway? I'll only be 12 months older and stiffer when I hit finally A-line. I'll just suffer it out again. I'm sure Europe will be really swell.

The majority of "spare rooms in a house" type accommodation is word of mouth for locals and long term renters who can't afford to live there otherwise.

Yeah I remember how it works I'm just way out of the loop. Everyone I knew there has moved on. There will be a new generation of soap dodging dirtbags that I can't tap into.

We're definitely going. We'll probably plan it properly and go next year. I'm absolutely desperate to send the Geometron down some gnarly gullys.

Thread Resurrection!!

Well it's now 2019 and I'm thinking of going to Whistler this year. As I do every year, but this time I'm serious!

I want to go in the last 2 weeks of August. And I'll be going alone and meeting some old mates there.

So far using Airbnb, the most suitable accommodation I can find for myself and a bike comes to a sphincter tightening £1900. I'm sure the first time I went I paid about £1200 for 4 weeks, but the world has changed since then. I really can't find anything else and I'm trying to avoid the central village condos.

I'll have another good look on VRBO tonight after work but welcome any tips.

For flights, from what I can see, only Air Transat flies direct from Manchester these days. That's over £900. Can't find any mention on the site about bikes so I'm waiting for a reply to a message about that.

The big difference this year, is that I've got a half decent job for the first time in ages and nothing else going on. So if I want to do it I can. But bloody hell, it's going to be nearly 4 grand for 2 weeks of riding bikes.

We booked our flights with Air Canada - we did get a bit lucky as was looking on the off chance & they had a flash sale. Flying from Heathrow, weekend flights with bikes & extra bags was about £630 each. Did notice this time a lot less carriers going to Van though.

Accommodation wise, we haven't booked anything yet, but it seems to be about £1800 for the 3 & a bit weeks we are doing for a few places out on Blackcomb again, which is nice, as it's out of town, yet only 10 minutes back to the village.
