I have my first ever triathlon coming up and the temptation to fit some tri bars has got too great.
I'm after something thats reasonably cheap and can also fit my oversize bars.
i had bought a set off ebay only to find they woudln't fit my bars. grrr.

I was thinking of the clip on types rather than the expensive wing type.
what do you all suggest?

Zipp Vuka and some of their poles. Lots of adjustability.

Need to spend a bit of time training on the bars to get use to them and get a sorted position. Also depending on the bike, just sticking them on the bars of a road bike may make for a twitchy ride.

TBH, if its your first ever tri, and you've not got much time ahead of it, I'd just stick to what you've got.

Ram your saddle forward on its rails and fit a shorter stem, or you'll find it hard to get a better position on them than your current road bars.

Don't shoehorn a pair of Zipp Vukas or anything onto what must be (i'm reading between the lines here) a standard road bike - just get a pair of cheap Profile clipons.

As it's your first go there's no point in spending $$$ only to find out you don't like them, or want to invest in a proper tt bike.

I've used these for a while and find them great Deda Parabolica Due. As finbar says, put your seat all the way forward. I also find it more comfortable to tilt the nose of the saddle down a bit (but not so far that you have to keep pushing yourself back up the saddle).

I've also bar taped the end of the bars to make them more comfy - but not everyone does.
