You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I am in the market for some clear riding glasses ready for the mud of winter. I have had the cheap bloc safety glasses before which were fine but wondered what else to consider. Happy to spend more although maybe not Oakley money. Thanks
if all you need is clear lenses then you can get cheaper, but I've had these several times and no issues: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Protection-Glasses-Sunglasses-Sports-Cycling/dp/B009IBJ5ZI/ref=pd_nav_hcs_bia_t_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=97Z2YCSDSK94CR5QZT1Q
I've ridden over them, sat on them, left them on a stone wall in the middle of no-where, dropped them in a river etc etc. I don't like spending any money on riding glasses.
I like the Venom safety specs. Variously branded as Sperion, Pulsafe, Honeywell....

Bolle Contour - about £8 and much better quality than more expensive cycling specific glasses.
How have you found the ventilation on then please? I appreciate they will ask eventually steam up.
Have had these for a few months and really love them... great fit, good protection and great vision. Some reviewers have complained of scratching, mine have been fine, but I have looked after them. Just lost a pair and am buying another set, so I must have liked them. Nice and clear too, I am not a fan of any tint at all.

Tifosi Duro are very good. 3 sets of lenses, including the clear ones. Very comfy, big frame.
Bolle contours here too. When the inevitable scratches occur, £8 for a new pair!

I've found the Venom to be ok, they stay clear when I'm puffing my way up a hill like an unfit 40+ carrying a few too many pounds. They can steam up when stationary for too long (don't they all?), but soon clear with a bit of air flow.
Only issue I have found is the ends of the arms can scratch the inner lens when folded if not careful.
I get mine from decathlon.
On the plus side:
Cheap
Come with at least 3 lenses (clear, sunglasses and rose/yellow/mirrored usually depending on model), meaning when one lens gets scratched they've got a further life as glasses for other conditions.
On the downside:
They don't sell lenses separately. I'd like some new mirrored lenses for my more expensive ones, or some of the photocromatic lenses, but the only way to get them is to buy new glasses (but new glasses are <£30 and come with 4x lenses so it's still cheaper than buying them for most brands).
I've a big head and get on well with the MOAB/B'twin 700 (there's a photochromatic version too if you search "moab photo")

I've also got a couple of cheaper pairs from them which just live in the car for when I forget (I get sore eyes quite quickly, i think because I never use to wear them for sailing which can mess with your eyes due to the added reflection).
should have said the Onetens are £9.99...

Designed and made in the UK. I've recently bought a pair with the swap-out clear/yellow/dark lens', but mainly to have the clear lens. All sorts of deals on t'internet or many local sports shops have them. They look good imo - and include narrower frames for narrower faces that would otherwise leave too big a gap on the Oakleys. Nice frame colours and plenty of different designs. Have had the B&Q £8 safety glasses - nice look but ventilation was non-existent (although a tip from a biking forum resulted in drilling a few holes into the edge of the lens, which helped).
Another contour user here. Very happy with them.
I've used the blue tinted which are okay unless it's really sunny (never when I ride!) and the clears for night riding. I've lost a couple of pairs, sat on one pair in my back pocket and scratched one pair when I dropped them on the tarmac, easily replaced for a few quid.
I've been down the safety glasses route before but found there was always some level of distortion that bugged me (especially on night rides) so gave up wearing them. Can anybody vouch for clear specs that that are 'as good as not wearing them' in terms of vision / lens quality?
Reading that back I'm not sure I've explained myself very well but hopefully it makes sense to someone.
Ryders Thorn, yellow photochromatic lens, anti fog (nothing's ever perfect, but these are as good as I've found), half the price of Oakley of which I have several sets and can guarantee the Ryders perform far better on a bike.
Lensway.co.uk do them and there's several other styles if you don't like the Thorn.
I use Bolle contour too and working in the Constr industry we get all the manufacturers in trying to sell us their safety specs as we go through millions of them over the years.
These £8 glasses are better quality and protection than 'official' cycling glasses costing £100+
I know for a fact from seeing the actual glasses, that some of the £8 safety glasses are re-branded as 'cycling' and sold for 10x the price!
I've mostly used bolle ones, just got some bolle prism in clear lens, so far they are really good.
Bolle are really good. I also recently bought some yellow lensed glad from decathlon for low light conditions.
Yet to try them but they were only £4.
