...mainly for medium-long distance all day road riding
Lots to choose from in the On One / Planet X sale in particular, anyone any experience of any, or any other recommendations?

Max budget is about £80-100 but would rather spend much less but will stretch it out if it means significant levels of extra comfort
After something not too hot and good at wicking sweat, I normally ride in just a T shirt/base layer and shorts with padded liners, even in autumn and warmer winter days as I hate being too hot

Also Chamois cream, tell me about it, what's the difference between that and the countless little pots of Nappy rash cream we have lying around from when my daughter was a baby

I'd buy (and did) some new with tags Rapha on ebay. Brilliant shorts.

Look on the on-one website. I bought some Biemme bib shorts for £9.99 the other week. The even had most sizes in stock, not just the usual xxs or xxl.
One rode in them so far and they are very comfy.

Decathalon do fairly decent bibs for not too much, they are fine for around 10-12 months & then I've found the pad compacts & stops being comfy.
Ive just splashed out on some Morvelo bibs & the pad is seriously excellent although I can't comment on longevity as yet.

I've just bought a pair of Castelli ones from Merlin.
Spotty dog IMHO.

I have quite a few pairs of bibs and the most comfortable pad is in some Odlo ones.I think they are around £60.Comfort is relative as i still know i've been sat on a bike for 8 hrs.
Always just used nappy rash cream,E45 or sudocrem which is a bit thicker.

Pearl Izumi Attack are my usual choice, reasonable price, very comfy and last a good few years.

I have always liked the dhb stuff.

The aeron race are suitable for most riding, I've done plenty of centuries in them and done one 10h, 150mile CX ride.

The aeron pro are the next model up. They are more comfortable and a nicer fit (for me). Bought a couple of pairs for some holidays as I was doing some long days. averaged 90 miles a day for 7 days in majorca, or 100miles a day for 4 days in Italy. Since then I've done a couple of 150mile rides in them as well.

Check the prices but the more expensive ones work out at about £70?

As for cream - check to see what is on offer. I've used stuff from planet x but they only have really expensice stuff left. I mostly use the udderly smooth from wiggle. It is fine and cheap. Only comment is a tube is easier to handle than a pot but it is a small annoyance not a problem.

Decathlon, the 700/900 series stuff. They did me a right job on a 280 miler earlier this year.
These:

Or these:

£30 ish and better than shorts I have bought costing 3 times as much.

These

Got 2 pairs of these and some DHB Aero pros. Assos are so much more comfortable on longer rides.

Castelli free aero for me, I think it's a bit like saddles, it's a matter of trying them I'm afraid

DHB is good kit and sensible prices. Gore Bike wear is nice as well but pricer. I'd avoid Rapha simply because you can get the same inserts on shorts costing less from other companies.

I have a large in them and I'm about a 31" waist - they're not especially tight around the waist on me so might be ok but I'd probably say XL.

I just got a Craft top, go up one size based on that.

Normal roadie sizing basically.

Gore do some pretty nice bib shorts.
