Currently got some size medium dianese trail skins, but need something with a bit more protection, mainly ride Peak District and bike parks a few times a year.Had some fox launch a few years ago but rubbed on back of leg like hell.Size wise I'm a tight fit medium I think.Cheers

Ion k-pact zips are my pick. They can feel a bit tight when you first put them on, and they are a little warm, but they saved my knees in a smash last year (shame about the rest of me) and only show some scuff marks to show they hit the ground. They just stay in place and I forget they are there.

I've also got the POC Joint VPD 2.0 but they just don't work for me. The top strap area is to bulky and the pads are too short for my longish legs.

G-form give them a go? Whether or not they have what you need?
Got mine from fort Bill world champs about 3 years ago for £25 but that price is doubled now. Just bought the missus knee and elbows that came to 100 notes but can’t put a price on not gouging your knees out 👍

I'll recommend my 100% Surpass pads. They aren't the cheapest but they're really comfy and offer decent levels of protection.

It’s all personal preference and fit.

E.g I tried ion k-pact zips in 2 sizes and neither fitted right so sent them both back. The calf to thigh size didn’t work for me - big enough for top of calves meant they were too baggy on my thigh above the knee. Really wanted them to fit as the quality seemed great and they get good reviews.

I went for Scott Grenade Evo’s at that point which fitted much better. I gave them quite a hard time and they were quite bulky for trail riding (but I’d had 2 offs which had really battered one of my knees - even through 661 recons on the 2nd crash - so I wasn’t taking any chances) - after a while they got a bit stretched / loose so I thought I’d try something else.

I’m currently on Fox Launch D30’s (not the pro with the hard kneecap). They are lighter and more comfy than the Grenades but still strong enough they’ve shrugged off a few crashes. I think the right one of those is beginning to stretch slightly and some stitching is coming undone. I’m going to stitch them back up for now as I want them to last a bit longer. Although I think when they die I’ll replace with the same again rather than go on the trying on millions of knee pads mission again!

I’ve just got some of the 7idp Sam Hill pads and think they’re great - but as above that’s because they fit me perfectly and don’t move around

I love my Raceface ambush, they're comfortable, never slip, have good protection and the real winner is they don't require you to take your shoes off.

I’m really impressed with my endura koroyd pads, they’re comfy and stay in place and great for pedalling in.

Fox Launch D30

Also cover the top of the shin, comfy and I’ll be buying them again as and when I need to.

+1
I went from (wore out) Trails skins to RF ambush, and their a lot more substantial, though I don't notice it when riding.

I read so many reviews, comparisons, top 10s, etc and got myself going around in circles for weeks.

I finally opted for the Leatt AirFlex Pros. They're comfy, fit me well and seem like they'll offer good protection. Not taken a tumble in them yet though. Looks like they can be had for quite a bit less than I paid before Xmas, now too.!

Leatt airflex pro are the comfiest I've used, no behind the knee bunching thanks to the cut out and I can wear them for hours, my mate with pipe cleaners for legs didn't get on with them though, if you've got decent quads and calves they fit well and stay put, I did have to size up though.
