I was going to build my own following this thread:
http://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/road-wheels-build-my-own-or-buy-some-factory-ones
But I got my christmas money early and I managed to sell my PS3 for more than I hoped so I think Im going to splash the cash (around £350 - 400) on some hand built ones by someone decent.
Whos any good?
Also
I was thinking Mavic Open Pro Rims or something a bit lighter? 28/24 spoke. What about hubs? Hope Pro 3? PMP? What else?
Thanks
depends on what you want, i know it is boring but i would go Record hubs and open pro rims, 32 db spokes.
Pro 3 are horribly loud on a road bike, I flogged mine for that reason.

Edit: I got DT 240 hubs from planet x sale and built with Kinlin XR300 30mm semi-aero rims and CXray spokes 20/24. 1500g for less than £400.
Main use is just riding on the roads around the lake district, so quite alot of climbing. For that reason I think I'd like something light and stiff.
Think I'd prefer sealed bearing hubs, rather than cup and cone.
I really fancy a set of King R45s. May not be in your budget though (or indeed mine, keeping an eye on fleabay!) Have their MTB hubs, 2 BBs and a headset and have been faultless.
Novatech hubs, Alpha rims, Revolution spokes. c1250g for less than £350.
Do you know what the novatec hubs are like in terms of quality/longevity?
I was thinking about spending a bit more on the hubs (hope or PMP or something else) and a bit less on the rims i.e. Mavic Open Pro/Ambrosio.
