I'm looking to buy bike for "endruo" DHlite trail centre warrior trips, few jumps, maybe a trip to the Alps type bike on budget. Guessing 150mm travel ish. It will not get used locally to me. I don't follow what bikes are released so have no idea. I'm thinking 2nd hand because of budget, I except I will need to replace drive-chain parts, bushes e.t.c. Thinking 26" wheels should help me pick up a good deal.

Give me some bike names to search for on ebay / classified. Ideally looking at £1k budget.

Last-model-before-they-discontinued-it-before-they-reinstated-it Patriot could be a very cheap option. Spicy, Enduro, Mega, stuff like that. Big and slack and tough.

Have an MDE Carve bought off here but never got round to building it up. Have frame, forks, wheels and cranks. Should be able to get the rest in and around your budget. Drop me an email if you're interested.

I'm having fun with the s/h Cube Stereo I bought last year - £1k will get you a carbon 26" 150mm.

I picked up a Scott Voltage FR (freeride) bike for dicking around on Uplift days - you can get them for £600-900, depending on spec & upgrades.

Fantastic fun on the D/H stuff, but I wouldn't fancy peddling it up very far.

@Norwind Mega? What brand name? I recognise the others.

@Chunkymonkey Will do. Just starting work so limited time access forum will have to wait a bit.

jamesmio sounds promising as 1k is top budget!

How do you size up bike like these. I'm quite accustomed to riding bikes small to me for the ability to move the bike as I still occasionally ride BMX but don't want to go too small. (6'2")

I've got a 2010 Cube Stereo frame barely used, so in very good condition, if you're interested?. will come with Syntace seatpost, seatpost reducer to run a rockshox reverb, barely used Hope headset, barely used front derailleur,, HTII BB (bb threads are good). Meant for 150mm forks. everything in A1 condition, just a few cable rubs. Been sat unused for too long and I'm too lazy to advertise it. Only looking for a few hundred quid plus postage.

I'd say an enduro bike and a play bike are pretty different. Picking up your query on sizing a 'play' bike (for jumps, drops and general hooning around) I'd want it on the smaller side, wheras an enduro bike (for going fast DH within necessarily as much 'fun', but also capable uphill) I'd be going the other way. Your definitions may vary from mine though.

@Stevet1 Thanks for the sizing info. I currently ride a rigid 19.5" 29er inbred which is fine around the south where I live but not the best to jump, I think the 18" would have been a bit better. I've done small doubles on it but no massive gaps, so this new bike I would like to be able to use on black runs at trail centres and do the jump without fear for the bike or have too much of a boat in the air so to speak but I am not planning on using the bike as a jump bike more it must not be a pig in the air!

cube stereo!

I swear about mine on local XC loops as it doesnt climb that well with 2.4s on but when it goes to the alps every year it just comes alive! Heels down, brakes off, collect trophies! It just smashes everything

IN the spirit of recommendations that i happen to have for sale.......

Specialized 2005 Enduro SX trail in medium?
It'll be cheaper than your budget too. I could provide frame/forks combo, or complete build.

could sort a full bike ready for Alps, Bike Park Wales for under £600.
Mail in profile for pics/build spec.

Lardman.
