We're looking to head to Afan in March and need some cheap self catering accomodation for 2 nights (Friday and Saturday) somewhere near the start of the Skyline trail. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I stayed in the pods last year at Bryn Bettws. Not the most comfortable sleeping on a air bed/matress. And the toilet/shower block was like something from the cold war. it was cheap for two of us though, and the sun shined which helped 😀

We stayed here in 2013. Ideally located as its about 5 minutes from the trail centre.

Good bike storage as there is a decent sized garage, nice rooms and decent breakfast, cheap too!

Skyline was closed when we went so we did the Wall and W2.

Worth a look.

Afan Lodge was good last year but I'd eat elsewhere as that wasn't so impressive.

joolsburger has just reminded me, from what I can remember there isn't anything in walking distance to eat / drink from the Queens B&B, I remember we had to drive, which after a days biking isn't great if you want to sup a few cold ones!

Skylines rest in glyncorrwg was always cheap and spacious with chunky/secure looking bike storage, (much bigger inside than it looks from streetview/map or indeed their own website) -stayed there a few times. Website doesn't seem to be running any more though, i wonder if they are still in business?

Bryn bettws bunhouse and lodges are both lovely too but the far end from skyline trail: you'd need to factor in most of the wall trail too in order to ride out, do skyline and get back again.

A proper old school B and B in Cymmer.

£30 a night with breakfast.

The Refreshment Rooms are a 3 minute walk away and is a cracking pub, the secret is to talk to the locals... great bunch of nutters er I mean guys.

+1. For this reason I would struggle to recommend. But it was cheap...
