been looking all over the place for 29" wheels.

I've got a Scott that came with 27.5 wheels with 2.8 tyres, but can also take 29 wheels up to 2.6", which I'm looking to buy (ideally second hand - but no luck so far, so looking at new sadly)

The OEM 29" wheels are a 30mm rim, but for 2.6" tyres on a 29" wheel does the rim need to be 30mm ? What difference does the rim width make here - if any ?

Most wheels are about 25mm rim, like the Hope Enduros etc, but am not sure they'd be ideal for 2.6 tyres.

Am hoping the STW massif and experts can assist.

I don't really want o go beyond £400 for new - as then I've got tyres, cassette, tubeless, rotors all on top.

less would be so much better, second hand would be perfect. But not had much luck for the first time here on STW.

So I reckon new is my best option.

Not at all stealth ad but I have some Hope Fortus 35s with 2.6 tyres already on (Hubs are silver) second hand for sale. Good nick, just used for testing. Haven't got round to sticking them in the classifieds yet though. PM me for details.

FWIW having ridden all sorts you definitely want 30+ rims to get the best from 2.6s.

If they'd been black hubs I'd be in touch.

Looks like 30 min rims then.

Halo Vapour 35s have been good for us, using one of the factory fronts and a rim built on to a rohloff on the rear with a variation 2.6 and 2.8 tyres. There is a pair on ebay at the moment (nothing to do with me) well inside your budget.

Hunt XC Wides here on my Cotic Solaris - running 2.4 Conti Cross Kings but it lets them 'breath' wonderfully. They come in 'none more black' with a few spare (standard spokes) and were perfectly true out of the box (have stayed that way over a year too).

Caveat - super buzzy freehub (mines Xd) - like it or hate it I guess.

25mm internal, think they would be just fine. If you wanted 30mm you could go with hte Trails but I prefer the lesser weight.

I wouldn’t run a 2.6 tire on anything narrower that 35mm.

If you want to get close to 2.6in width from the tyres then you'll need 35mm rims (manufacturers seem to have started quoting tyre width relative to rim width). If you aren't too bothered then 30mm will be fine.
