I am upgrading my wheels on my Strive CF and have dt swiss 240s hubs and xm481 rims. I still need to purchase the spokes currently deliberating between dt swiss or sapim. The spoke calculator I used says that I need 16x272mm 16x275mm and 32x273mm.

I would like to know of any good wheel builders preferably in the north west?

Not quite the North West but this guy is well regarded and does an excellent hassle free postal service. I would confidently recommend him from experience:

I’m in a similar process for spokes - got DT xm481 rims and Hope pro 4 rims. Think the best value is DT from rode bikes at 53 cents per spoke. Sapim seem more expensive everywhere and I believe both are made from sandvik wire.

Aci are a bit cheaper at 45p per spoke from cyclebasket.

If you have DT hubs & DT rims, the spokes & nipples have to be............. DT, or the gods of Oval shalt visit your wheels & cast a spell of uneven tension for ever more.

Try Rose bikes for DT spokes.

Have had two pairs from Mark, at spokesman and both spot on, delivers quickly and well packaged easy to deal with too.

I've used www.ptcycles.co.uk a few times now and been excellent builds each time.

Well bedded in, solid builds and staying true after a lot of abuse and riding. Substitute for JRA who stopped doing custom builds, only their own brand stuff, and PT has been quicker than JRA were in my experience, and way better range of DT stuff (I'm a bit of a DT fan).

Ride On in Rawtenstall did a great job building my Hope hub onto my Mavic rim for around £50 including spokes. Highly recommended.

I am very tempted to try building them myself.

The only thing putting me off is getting the spoke lengths wrong.

Wheelpro spoke calculator has never let me down. The secret is measuring your components rather than taking the manufacturers spec.
