For my wife's Xmas present. I'm thinking maybe £150 bed, breakfast and dinner for 2 if that's realistic. Preferably in the countryside in a nice looking building.

Has anyone seen any good deals or stayed anywhere they could recommend?

Shieldaig Lodge Hotel, near Gairloch.

We had a couple of nights there last month and it was fantastic.

Bridge of Orchy Hotel is always worth it too.

He's obviously not from Thurso 🙂

Torridon Hotel or variant thereof.
proper posh -- friends run Forss House, up by Wick.
They used to run the Ackergill Tower (!)

plenty of scope TBH. Go on TripAdvisor and pick a location.

My choice would always be Arisaig House.
Not sure if Calgary Bay hotel still running on Mull.
Somewhere out Ardnamurchan?

How about the Baltasound Hotel, nice and secluded, great for peace and quiet.

We'll be travelling from near St Andrews. Lots of choice there but quite expensive. Hopefully I'd like something that's about an hours drive away.

Have been to Mabie House before and liked it but that's probably a bit too far.

Hydro at Pitlochry or Crieff, or Doubletree in dunblane, all have cheap deals on in winter. Mrs_oab sister just stayed at Doubletree for £48 night on Groupon.

We go every year for a night to the Barley Bree in Muthill near Creiff. It's more of a restaurant with rooms but the food is amazing, the rooms lovely and the wee lounge dead relaxing. The Creiff hydro is just up the road if you fancy all the spa stuff and the comrie Croat trails are also nearby.

I like the Atholl Arms at Dunkeld.
Not particualrly luxurious, well, not luxurious at all really, but get a room overlooking the Tay, and great views over to Birnam hill.
4 or 5 places to eat in the village, 3 decent pubs too.
