Repurposing a set of wheels that I built up but never used. The Rohloff hub comes off and sold, and something else goes in....but what?
Can't justify/afford Hope money and I want it to be 6 bolt without a converter so Shimano is out.
142mm X 12mm bolt through 32H with 6 bolt rotor. 11spd Shimano HD. And black.
This is for gravel/touring. Front has a Son dynamo hub so matching isn't an issue.
What you got that lasts and is reasonable value?
Ta
Novatec are decent - a lot of brands use them rebranded as their own.
I've got a set that are still going after 7 or 8 years.
bitex? Seem to be lasting ok on mine.
No Hope Pro 4's for sale now that the 5 is out?
Thanks. Re the Hope 4 - you'd think so wouldn't you but in the HD cassette flavour there seems to be slim pickings.
Bitex - I think Spa sell those, which is pretty much an endorsement of bombproof value for money.
But Novatec might be the win - the other wheels used on the bike have Nukeproof branded hubs. Pretty sure Nukeproof don't actually make hubs so suspect they are Novatec rebranded. In which case find the same model and reduce the chance of disc misalignment when swapping wheels.
Bitex for near Hope quality but a bit cheaper. Or superstar v6’s were going cheap a while ago - I picked one up for £90. Make a nice noise (very loud and clicky) and have good pickup
2nd hand DT or Hope, just so you'll be able to get spares for it years down the line and won't be left with a hub you have to junk because you lose an end cap or damage an axle.
Shimano do 6 bolt. Whether or not they're really available I don't know.
Shimano 6 bolt or DT Swiss.
And both are nice and quiet too.
Used DT240 or 350, they're damn nearly indestructible so you can't go far wrong with used, and they're even cheaper now with bloody stupid boost making the size you want "obsolete". Stupid money new so I got all of mine by buying ratty 26 inch wheels with DT hubs.
Novatec do some good stuff and some not so good stuff, Bitex seem to do mostly good?
Halo if you're going for a Taiwanese hub, they pick good OE specs and there's decent spares availability.
Pretty sure Nukeproof don’t actually make hubs so suspect they are Novatec rebranded.
Novatec are just one of a handful of OEM hub makers they may be using.
