Looking for suggestions for a new bike for my lad.
24" wheels...what's out there that is reasonable?
My 8 year old has a Frog.
Her brother had a Ridgeback at that age.
Depends how much you want to spend, new or second hand
My 7 year old has a Trek dual sport, 26"wheels fully rigid bike with disc
brakes. Nice bit of kit for a kid
Frog here - nice wee machine...
Trek do a rather tidy looking full bouncer if you want to splash serious cash on something!

Got one of these for my lad, lightweight, decent bits, and I personally think it's better value than the islabike equivalent.
Can give your lad a shot on it if you like?
I don't do the "boys bike" thing. They are just bikes in or house. If I was feeling flush i'd go for the Commencal Meta, which seems to have a great spec for the money.
I recently bought a Frog 62 for my eight year old daughter. It is really great. Size wise it fits in between an Isla bike Beinn 24 and 26 and its weight is in the middle also. Price wise the Isla bikes are £400 whilst the Frog 62 was £270. You also get two sets of tyres one pair of hybrid which work really well off road and a set of MTB tyres and tubes both sets are Kenda. To be fair I think this is a bit of overkill as they are great value with one set of tyres. They also have some lightweight mudguards included in the price.
My daughter loves the bike and the weight saving over her old one is really noticeable off road.
The online reviews are all out of date so they have addressed things like small grips, cassette and they are now nearly 1kg lighter
Look for the weight, the full suspension commencals weigh more than an average estate car.
Took my 8 year old bike shopping last week as he had outgrown his 20". Out of all the bikes he chose the Specialised Riprock, not the lightest being a 24+, but not as heavy as I feared. Cant get him off it, which surely is the point of bikes! I get light weight, but something they really want to ride is as important.

I think value for money the bike in this link is brilliant but I think they have been out of stock since before Christmas at my local store. But if you can find one it would be my choice.

As the above bike was out of stock I purchased the one in Qwertys link from Paul's cycles and it's a lovely bike. I'd go for that one. Well I did!
+ 1 for the Spesh riprock. We got one for our 8 year old and he loves it. Load of grip with the chubbier tyres.
Love that riprock...
I'm just deliberating what bike for my lad, turns 10 in June and needs the saddle of his 24" wheel hotrock quite a way out.
He managed to "ride" his sisters small wsd trek with 26" wheels so I'm thinking an xs 26" wheel.
I really like the bonaly 26" disc but £400? It's a hefty price tag when I'm still battering round in a bike bought in 2004!
