I’m after a new hydration pack. Big enough to take a waterproof jacket, some food and a 2-3l bladder. Preferably waterproof, or with a cover. Most rides will be trail centres or Dartmoor, so short-mid length rides most likely.

Have seen the Evoc CC range (like the styling), the Osprey raptor 14 (like my other Osprey bags) and the Camelbak mule LR. Any owner opinions on these? Or any others to consider. Hoping there’s something suitable out there in the sales.

I use an Osprey Raptor and it's been excellent. The hydration bladder included with the magnetic chest strap is great as well and stops the tube flapping around.

Mule LR - had mine a few months, cracking bit of kit. The LR bladder can be tricky to put in but it keeps all the weight on the waist strap and off your shoulders. Plenty of room for a days riding, loads of compartments too. Has a waterproof cover, tool roll, magnetic hose clip, and it's not too big but will still do for long days, can fit a waterproof layer, plus food, and 3l of water so enough for a full day.

I have been using a Camelbak KUDU 10 for the past 6 months or so and really rate it. Built in rain cover and the security of a back protector. Harness system is most stable I have ever used.

Hi
Take a look at the Endura MT 500 with built in back protector.
The bottom part is like a rubberised like material and is more resistant to splash and spray and helps keep stuff dry.
I use mine in the winter and swap to a Mule LR day in summer.
Both excellent bags though so you won’t go wrong with either.
Cheers
Steve

Thanks for the thoughts, folks. I hadn't spotted the Camelbak Skyline deal in the article yourguitarhero mentions... for that price its hard to turn down - i can live with having to put the relevant items in a dry bag inside it for that price! 🙂

Got an osprey zealot in the CRC sale, didnt come with a bladder but will invest in that at some point if i feel the need. Bag is of the highest quality, very well thought out.

Had an evoc blackline freeride before that. Osprey is to be honest superior in every way. Does not move at all when riding steeper trails, always found the evoc to ride up slightly. Only downside is no back protector but i can live with that.

Was £50 in the sale and i think a total bargain. Also Osprey have a very good repair policy, lifetime i believe.

I have had my skyline a couple of years. It,s a really comfy bag, only just big enough for longer rides but then you usually fill whatever space you have. Not waterproof as has been said. I also use a small frame bag for inner tube(fat bike) and phone for easy access to take pics.

Thanks fatbikedog, good to know. I’m happy with a dry bag for the essentials and don’t tend to take the kitchen sink with me, so fingers crossed it’s all the bag I need.

Thanks yourguitarhero , I needed to replace my old hydropak flow that has given me over 15 years of service. The skyline was too good an offer to ignore (though not really my colour) and thanks to your timely pointer another one its on its way 😀

Yeah, they're good. Comfy enough and some external storage for helmet and pads which helps with the smaller pack size. There's an external pocket I keep my jacket in too, and hip strap pockets for phone and jelly babies.
