No2 Skipperlet needs a new bike having grown out of his current one (Trek Wahoo) and he wants a HT. He only does simple non technical riding but fancies doing a bit if single track type stuff but just something a bit muddy rather than anything downhill and the like. He’s about 5ft now and I want something that he won’t grow out of in 5 mins…

Ideally something 29” with Shimano 12sp and hubs that are 15x110 and 12x148 so it will take my now redundant EX511 wheels. Something like a Spesh Fuse but half the price…

Any good deals on something nice knocking about?

Lots in the Sale at Wiggle/CRC. Vitus Sentier, Nukeproof Scout, Ragley Big Al or similar?

At 11 years old there’s nothing they won’t grow out of pretty quickly. We bought our eldest a Nukeproof Cub Scout for his 11th birthday. He was 150cm tall and if anything it was a smidge too big, but we knew he’d grow into it quickly. 20 months later, he’s now 164cm and the seat post is a minimum insertion! I’ve said from now he can share use of my fleet.
Fortunately the Cub Scout will get a 2nd life with his younger brother, before we move it on.

In a similar boat, sandwicheater jnr is 10 and a whisker shy of 145cm.

Vitus Sentier 27.5 seems the best bet at the moment.

Doesn't tick all your boxes but didn't want to throw money when he'll grow out of it in a couple of years.

Spesh Rockhoper 27.5 fitted him well and discounted a few places.

Might have to get a Rockhopper and compromise the spec I'm after and then sell on and get a better one when he's bigger - likely better/easier resale opportunities with the Rockhopper becaue of the brand I would guess.

My 9 year old son is a smidge over 5ft and is on a small frame 27.5 Rockhopper, and he is getting on really well with it. I went for the Comp version rather than the higher spec Elite, but only because I had a spare air fork and some good quality 10 & 11 speed drivetrain parts in the garage to use if necessary otherwise I think I would have stump(jumper-ed) up for the Elite. I also converted the wheels to tubeless which was a doddle.
