can any one recommend me a loop to do around low level ish lakes? dont want to drive to south lakes really
i know borrowdale is pretty good for winter and pretty close (2hrs drive for me), but it only looks to be around 15 miles, was hoping for a good day out doing around 20-25 miles and 4k climb sort of thing make it worth the drive?
i have never ridden that way before (done a few lakes rides but far more than above and further up), but really fancy heading up there to do something different
cheers
stick a bit more on the bash!
but thats just it, i dont know the area or know whats there, if anyone has anything i can pinch circa miles/climb above then id happily do that ride
Do the bash from Castlerigg, walla crag, up over watendlath into rosthwaite, then up lang strath (rhs of beck) up onto stake pass, and cut across footpath to sprinkling tarn, then descend all the way down via styhead back to seathwaite. Continue on bash.
A grand day.
sounds promising nobeer - I don't suppose you have done that? or possibly a gpx route, none of those names mean anything to me, so trying to find info on how to piece it togethers going to take some time
ive had a look on strava for some rides, but seemingly most people just do the bash so cant even rob anything from strava
Dave - Drop Garry a line, he'll have all our routes logged somewhere and should be able to send a GPX.
Some great stuff out of Ings (just near Staveley) bit of a pedal on the quiet lanes then up The Garburn, I'll Bell, Foswick, Nan Bield, back over Green Quarter and Staveley Head Fell. Great route if you don't mind some hike a bike.
Or no hike a bike start just out of Ings near Dubbs Reservoir, Troutbeck, Ambleside, Iron Keld and back via Loughrigg Terrace.
Macc to Ings via M6 should be about 1hr 45
OW, sorry, I've never strava'd the route, tbh it's not a difficult one to follow, TomB is your man for a gpx.
Another really good lower level one is Park Glenridding – Hartsop – Hayeswater reservoir – wee push up the Knott – Satura crags – Angle tarn – Boredale hause (corking descent from there!) – Rooking – Ullswater bridleway.
Then about 5km of road to Pooley bridge, and then Askham fell – bridleway descent to Howtown – Ullswater bridleway – Glenridding.

cheers carl - good shout, did think about asking either of you, but seemed to remember you did stuff further up? if those ones are 1hr45 away then ill have a look at that - DONT want to hikeabike at the min, fitness level cant sustain pushing and my rights shins ****ed! so just pedally as possible would be great
that ings one sounds interesting, left it very short notice to sort out sadly but ive got a free day tomoz so would like to do something totally different and wales looks a washout

cheers - no probs, know its a long shot short notice and not everyone uses strava (me included but its ace for robbing/finding new rides!)
I have rode with carlos (above) around pooley bridge area many years back, very very good, cant remember it that much other than it was windy and ace, and bloody brutal, not sure im up for that on my current fitness and being on my tod but ideally something like that, just a bit more mellow and easier to navigate -
will have a look see if can find loops from glendrriding but think this is a bit further drive than Id like to do
Dave - No worries mate. I'll have a look see if I can find the non hike a bike loop. You on the same email - oasis etc....

Looked like a decent amount of snow above 1500ft when I was out yesterday.

Claife and Grizedale were in surprisingly good nick if you're coming from the south.
hmm where abouts is that? nice pic BTW
Wise Een Tarn on Claife Heights looking towards the Langdales.
NoBeer- I’m not a gpx/Strava person either.
I think if you don’t want hike a bike I’d do the bash with walla, if you like a bit of tech then add warnscale to Buttermere and return up honister pass for the rest of the bash. Or standard bash plus lonscale loop- our to threlkeld and up to
Blencathra field centre then around towards skiddaw house returning to Latrigg and down to Keswick. Think forecast isn’t great so that’s a good weatherproof day out.
