Am going to drive across with my wife who is going to cycle for 2/3 days so a nearby pool and nice places to read a book would be good.

Hotel Le Sporting is where we stay for PDS. Has a pool, somewhere to site and not too expensive

Try homelidays France too, alps appartments are pretty empty in the summer so go pretty cheap, 150-200 euros a week for the most basic.
