Can anyone recommend a two man tent, must be light enough for the bike, small but good enought for the sh1tty winter 😀
currently looking at MSR, Moo Room 2, any one know wtf a footprint is 😀
seperate groundsheet?
A footprint is basically just a groundsheet to go under the tent, but the right size/shape for the tent. I would just get a cheap PVC groundsheet from Millets etc instead, and cut it to the right size.
For a 2 man tent, I would recommend the North Face Tadpole. Packs pretty small and light, and its stood up fine in a variety of weather. Though I usually use it on my own, it might be a bit cramped if you actually have 2 people in it.
We have a Hilleberg Nallo 2 GT - it's the version with the extended flysheet. Brilliant tent, loads of room for gear and so on, although a little bit of a tight squeeze for me, the wife and 2 collies when we're all in and zipped up for the night.
It is brutally expensive though.
MH Viperine - great 2 man tent, the 3 is huge for a 3 man so take a look if you think if you want something bigger.
Better than the tadpole if only because of clever marketing my MH vs NF - Viperine is a snake that eats Tadpoles 😆
Hi, Don't know the Mo Room, but all the other MSR tents I've looked at had either full mesh or nearly all mesh inners, so great ventilation, but can be very cold for UK use in winter.
Are you looking on the Field & Trek site? They've got 20% off all tents and camping gear until midnight on Sunday.
A couple that could be worth looking at:
Wild Country Duolite Tourer - has a massive porch, could probably get the bikes inside at night, just under 3kg, £140

Terra Nova Superlite Voyager, reasonable space and super light at 1.5kg, £220

Wild Country Aspect 2, unusual looking, but got a good review in Trail last month, 2.2kg and only £80

We have just been buying a pile of tents from Terra Nova at work, and I have to say I am unimpressed. So much so that I won't be buying them again.
Anything from their 'superlight' or 'competition' range is so tissue thin, uses silly paperclip like pegs and all sorts of 'detachable' parts that means they can weigh in lighter than they actually are.
I think the cheaper Vango's that we bought are better in use, and certainly better workmanship, just made from cheap materials and a couple of hundred grammes heavier.
Having said that, the older Voyagers we have are pretty good.
I have to say, mine and various colleagues Macpacs are the shizzle. Mine is 15 years old and still (just) going, having been used, used and used some more. Reproofed it this morning having used it again last night.

Some of our guys also have Lightwaves that are much better made than the Terra Nova's, for similar cost. http://www.lightwave.uk.com/en/tent_t2ultra.php
I have to agree about being unimpressed with terra nova lightweight options, but I geuss thats the choice between durabilaty and lightweight that you have to make.
I like my ME dragonfly 2, pitch in 1 makes it a great winter tend.
Tarptent scarp 2 are getting rave reviews at the moment, but I have not seen one in the flesh.
Macpac here as well- Celeste, 17 years old and still going strong, rated as 3 season, but I've found it fine all year. Can be carried and pitched inner, fly, or both- 3kg if you carry the whole thing. Two vestibules, easy two or comfy three man tent. Cost a bomb, but their kit is made to last- reckon the kids will be using it when I'm gone.
Minaret is pretty much the same, but has only one vestibule, and about 1/2 kg lighter.
Only one company in proper tents: Robert Saunders. Check his web site. The very best in lightweight tents especially for biking/touring etc.
I bought a Vaude Taurus which seems pretty good. Very popular with Duke Of Edinburgh groups apparently.
